  • Consider the target audience

[Read the article: Going out drinking? Wear nice undies]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This is not aimed at women who are responsible adults, it is aimed at women who regularly go out in public and drink so much that they lose control of themselves. This is simply a vivid reminder to those women that if they drink themselves into oblivion, they may end up in a situation that they don't want. Most women don't think they will be raped. But it's easier to believe that you might end up sprawled on the floor with your dress in an awkward position. If that image keeps some women from ordering that 5th drink, then it's a good thing.

  • Not homophobic

I believe him. I once confronted a boss because I found out that the men working with me (at similar jobs) were being paid MUCH more than I was. I was told that they needed more money, because they had families to support. The real irony was that I was struggling to buy a home, all by myself, while every one of those men was married to a professional (well-paid) working woman.

  • Can you actually swim in those suits?

[Read the article: The itsy-bitsy bikini's antithesis]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I suspect that you could float around in the water, but you will have a hard time swimming properly. Even water aerobics will be a challenge, with all that drag. And the moment you get out of the water, the fabric will cling to your body, defeating the purpose of the modest outer covering. These suits are nothing more than an updated version of what my great-grandmother wore in the early 20th century. Has it actually come to the point that women have to hide their bodies to feel comfortable?

  • Human life is already disposable

[Read the article: "Pro-life" parents say stem cell veto's a "vote breaker"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Think of how many fully developed humans we allow to die waiting for transplants, just because families aren't comfortable with the idea of harvesting organs from dead people. Think of the many people dying of hunger because nobody cares enough to feed them, or babies dying of curable diseases because there is no money to treat them. Think of the deaths due to AIDS, which have been increased because of the right wing's denial of birth control to third world nations. Think of all of the "collateral damage" from assorted wars throughout the world. The right wing doesn't value human life. They consider life quite disposable. There is no moral issue in the stem cell divide - it's strictly political. If the right really cared about human lives not being disposable, they would put some real effort into seeing that humans weren't so... disposable.

  • Why was she calling him?

[Read the article: Fired in the maternity ward]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Her partner is having a baby, and she is on the phone listening to rumors and then following up on them? Let's pretend for a moment that this was a man, not a woman. How would we be reacting? I suspect we would be less than sympathetic to a man who was talking business on a cell phone while his wife was in labor.

  • If I had a child in daycare...

[Read the article: "I make $1.45 a week and I love it"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

... and found out that the person I was paying was working on the side while they were supposed to be watching my child, I would be very, very annoyed. I only hope that the parents wise up before someone gets hurt. Otherwise - I guess if people want to work for pennies, we can't stop them. But I suspect this is going to get bigger. I wonder how many years it will be before we are complaining of the loss of jobs to websourcing.

  • I'm not sure this is just about money

[Read the article: I grew up poor but my boyfriend has money]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

When this guy suggests that is girlfriend put herself in a financial situation that she isn't comfortable with, I cringe. Telling somebody to spend money they think they can't afford to spend is unkind, at best, and controlling, at worst. Asking any friend to get into a situation they don't feel comfortable with is not a good thing. Money is an important issue for a couple to agree on. If she is a saver and he is a spender, they may have trouble down the line. I suggest that the writer sit down and discuss her concerns with him. Perhaps they could agree to live within her means until they are married, and make some kind of fair arrangements to ensure that she has financial security (perhaps a portion of her salary could go into a personal saving account under her control) after they are married.

  • I'm imagining a row of statues...

[Read the article: Sen. Clinton busting out all over]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Each is of a famous man. Each is naked and sporting an erection. Of course, the artist would have to approximate the size of the erection, but I'm sure that he could use photos of the men in swimwear to make a guess. Would this be stirring debate on male sexuality, or would it be a childish way for an artist to get attention?

  • It was worth ...

[Read the article: Is the Iraq war worth the cost?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

To Iran. By planting a few false stories, they got rid of an arch enemy and gained power over the country adjacent to them.

To Haliburton and other war profiteers. They made billions of dollard on cost/plus contracts, and often didn't even have to provide services for their fees.

To BushCo. They skillfully used the war in a slight of hand trick that kept Americans looking in the direction of the middle ease wihle they were busy accomplishing their agenda of remaking America.

It wasn't worth it to the Iraqis or the American people, but who cares about them anyway, right? This was all about power, and the powerful won.
