  • French Indo China

    [Read the article: Modern slaves]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That was Vietnam and its surrounds. It was a possession of France. The A-bombs had been dropped and there was no invasion of Japan. I did not have to go. Everything was very confused. Just ending High School, I knew a man who had been to Indo China on a tramp freighter.

For the sum of ten dollars, he and four other men bought five young (About 13 years old) girls and a big house.

They had their fun for a season. When they left, they freed the used girls and gave the house to them. Having the house would give the girls the resource to support themselves.

I do not know how they made out.

  • President Clinton

[Read the article: Obama's plan to change the economy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Clinton got in because he is a clever campaigner and Bush #1 made some dumb mistakes. Once in as president, he floated up on the DotCom boom.

Now, times are not good and there is no real indication that Hillary (or McCain) will be any better than Obama.

So, Obama had a nutty preacher. There are lots of nutty preachers out there. Some are right wing, some left. Go to a Black church. You won't like the music either. It's a different culture. Want a better choice? Look up Billy Graham, Rick Warren, Robert Schuller. I'm sure that there are Black preachers that stay out of politics. Falwell and so on are white but no better than Wright. The Bakkers weren't very good.

As for Obama, remember the Abba Hit, "Take a Chance on Me." He's better than a sure loser.

I'm beginning to think that a Constitutional Convention would be in order. Not to replace the whole document but some changes are in order. Our forefathers provided several means of amending it.

  • Will it dawn on the media ?

[Read the article: Rum, Romanism and James Carville]

Click on my name to see what the media hasn't found yet. The Cooper Union is an old historic place.

  • "ignorant" America

[Read the article: Michelle Obama on "ignorant" America]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Michelle Obama is one smart cookie. She tells it like it is. If one looks at her life, she is a real asset to the USA. She hasn't always been proud of our country. Neither am I. We have many good points but there are some stickers in there too. How about the Archie Bunker types? Are you proud of them? There are plenty of them around. There are many politicians that we could do without.

  • A good cartoonist.

    [Read the article: Opus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Mr Breathed is sure good at cartooning. Hobbs looks just right.

  • Phonies

    [Read the article: Opus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Breathed runs short series of cartoons. This series is political. The start was a cancer cell masquerading as a lobbyist. The idea being that lobbyists are the cancer of American politics. Now, we have an imaginary tiger masquerading as Steve. One can see where this series is heading. Go figure.

Some readers do not like politics. I'd suggest some serious thinking. Ancient Rome did not last. Will the USA last forever?

The human race is a cancer on our world. We now have the capability of destroying just about everything. We are multiplying beyond reason.

Clicking on my name will fetch a noted Australian.

  • Lady Joan

[Read the article: Why John Edwards hasn't endorsed Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I just wrote out something complimentary for the lady, then your site wiped out my browser.

  • Browsers

[Read the article: Hillary Clinton's tough week]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Only Salon and eBay manage to wipe out a browser that scores very high on the acid3 test. Do you get your techies from Redmond, WA?

Internet Explorer scores the worst on acid3 but people still use it.

  • Influences

    [Read the article: Opus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Bill Watterson was greatly influenced by Krazy Kat and Little Nemo in Slumberland. Little Nemo was a fantastic dreamworld. Krazy Kat was in love with Ignatz (a mouse). Ignatz would hit Krazy Kat with a brick but Krazy remained in love. Then Offisa Pupp would lock Ignatz in jail.

  • President-elect Eisenhower

[Read the article: McCain's Vietnam obsession]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

When Eisenhower got elected. he promptly went to Korea and put a stop to the fighting. It was generally thought that Communism was a cancer taking over the world. I well remember the growing blobs of red on global maps.

However, Eisenhower had the wisdom to say, "No land wars in Asia." Then having no active war on his hands he had saved enough to build the Interstate highway system.

Eisenhower was followed by John F Kennedy who made the mistake of sending troops to Vietnam. Lyndon Johnson blew this way out of reason.

Later, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. The first President Bush made the mistake of cutting this too short and not finishing the job when we had worldwide support.

President Clinton had poor intelligence gathering but Bush # 2 used it to go it alone (except for the UK) to go after Iraq. Sen McCain intends to continue this. Both Democrats want out.

Presumably, Hillary would just bail out but Obama seems to be capable of negotiating a real end to the hostilities. In the Mid East, a white woman has the cards stacked against her. Unfair, but that's the way of the Muslim world. Hillary polls better in England but Iran is where the danger is located.

  • Not again!

[Read the article: The Great Depression: The sequel]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

FDR did not end the Depression. Hitler did. I grew up in the Depression. It was no fun and neither was Hitler's fix.

Note that President Clinton continued the deregulation. Vote for Hillary? No way. Vote for McCain? Slightly better.

These are the two that Hillary says have experience.

  • Negative and Positive.

[Read the article: Americans more ready for a black president than a woman?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Whatever they once were, Hillary has increased her negative feelings, Obama has increased his positive feelings. If the reverse were true, Americans would be more ready for a female president and less ready for a black one.

Hillary is a loser and is lowering female expectations. Obama is only half black but we still have the notion about the one drop of black blood.

There is no such thing as half female.
