this is really unfair -

because first there is all this foolishness about 'the messiah' and 'worship' and then you guys turn right back to a honest discussion about 'Torture' again and this makes me look like some kind of creep and I don't like it because I voted for Obama to stop Torture - and he promised me he will - and as I am also an 'issue person' and I didn't give too much thought with whom he is going to stop Torture and instead listened to all of his interviews he gave lately where he reassured me again and again - and then I come back to UT and I read that most of you gals and guys are very unhappy with him because of the people he picked to stop Torture and that he doesn't want to punish 'the evil Bush' and all the other 'evildoers' and I get really depressed - but then thanks god Sinnard comes along and it is loony time again and I am so relieved and I finally realize that Obama must be the messiah because he is willing to shoulder all these sins

of the evildoers (and on this blog too) and suddenly I am all at peace again.

and perhaps -

if Jebbie comes up with another fishnetstory and yells 'we got a winner' we can go back to biswax as usual!

RMP -

'I really wished there was a way Obama could wave a magic wand and the concept of labeling

or viewing politics through labels could disappear starting on Jan. 20, 2009, and we could just discuss how to solve our most severe problems'.-

Hey!

He already did!- and most of the young voters of Obama gave up on these silly academic

"label' discussions since a long time. For them all 'the old definitions of political affiliation are now TRULY bogus' (as the dude from Taos wrote) and they think its kind of absurd (or funny?)

that so called 'Progressives' are still rehashing this crap - But don't worry they are going to die out as fast as all these 'old farts blogs' who mainly live in the past and who haven't realized

yet that 'move-on' really means moving on way beyond move-on!

Glenn -

it just might be a 'generational' problem - but I guess not for RMP!

Sunday, November 23, 2008 10:31 AM

and on a second thought -

to - 'Where mean political arguments don't exist and bad people are silenced and divisions are erased and harmony reigns'.- It's a pretty good idea - and we'll work on that together!

Sunday, November 23, 2008 10:40 AM

Glenn don't forget -

a lot of the 'stuff' which comes from pieceofsky (I really like that) is from my dad and he is an old fart too (he says so) but at least he sometimes listens to me - Do you know how frustrating it is

to tell you gals and guys always what's what?

Sunday, November 23, 2008 10:56 AM

and london lad -

what I just wish for is that Obama get's through with near-universal government health care, climate change, ending the war in Iraq, closing Guantanamo prison, ending torture, raising taxes on the super rich, proposing massive government public works projects, supporting pro-choice policies and stem-cell research... and if he would have to hire Bush to do it I just would smile and consider it as a wonderful piece of divine justice!

bamage-Remember when teachers would say: Help the poor and stupid kids -

so could you please translate 'adherent', 'irrelevant' and obsolete' - because my dad is on the loo and I always only get half of the stuff Glenn is writing about!

Sunday, November 23, 2008 11:21 AM

rbsimon -

hey - great! You are also on our side - don't let the ones on the other side get you - They can be mean little buggers!

Sunday, November 23, 2008 11:31 AM

and Rbsimon -

we also have this teacher in school - he is never satisfied - just like a kid - you throw him a

'no torture' - you throw him a 'health insurance' and he always asks:Where does that come from

-and when it comes from little 'Friedensreich' (he can be really annoying) she doesn't want to have it!

Sunday, November 23, 2008 11:53 AM

bamage-could you please explain -

'defenestrated' and 'Appy polly logies'.

'Overton window' I got (we have one at home)

Couldn't resist.

HuffPo gave a direct link to GG's post -

- Is that why the temple of doom reads today so 'progressive'? (literally spoken)

Sunday, November 23, 2008 12:20 PM

We are all human beings on the planet Earth, and we have a job to do.

- and I always thought a ethnic professor would embrace this quote!

Sunday, November 23, 2008 12:46 PM

as the obvious expert for pies -

I don't approve of Sinnards message!

Sunday, November 23, 2008 12:49 PM

and did I mention that Obama is a white guy -

how much can you screw up a post!

Sunday, November 23, 2008 01:07 PM

sandy yago -

I also used to distrust people over 18 but you should get over it- as much as you should get over your warped image of Sesame Street - If Sesame would become reality you would have learned something and perhaps you should give it another review - starting with the first episode!

YES!! -

there is the 'truth' that the problem of the last eight years has been that our political leaders have been too rigidly ideological - And WE (what you like to call the 'Obama fans') ar absolutely and totally sick of it. And this 'truth' -- if you want to accept it or not -- has generated this desire to rid ourselves of ideology not necessary in the name of pragmatism - but much more in the name of 'reason'!

And it can be done because it is tremendously desirable.

Ideology matters to People who hold mostly uncorrectable, passionate views about key political disputes and their disputes have become so confused that these type of People have to spent a lot of time just to get the definitions of their ideologies straight (a great example was Che Pasas 'Progressive Mambo Jambo' on the last thread) And you are soo right - Foreign policy is about a lot more than mere "competence," and so are political questions generally.

Your great idea of 'harmony' or that there could be some kind of a 'moral' approach to politics (remember the high road?)

Monday, November 24, 2008 12:59 PM

sorry Glenn -

but 'this current fixation on pragmatism, trans-partisanship, non-ideological compromise and the like' -- is one of the major fruits of the Bush era - Whatever the national Democratic Party has been about...
