[Read the article: Bush and McCain's shared foreign policy approach]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]as a father you always struggle with the task to answer to the "growing ones" one of the most difficult questions (besides the "sex" one)- When it is okay to go to war? - and you try to avoid the term of a "good" or "bad" war - or only use it as a provocation.
I you are part German you always first turn to Clausewitz but this might be not very helpful because his: "War is a continuation of politics by other means" - is used by pacifists and war proponents alike and Clausewitz theory
is so complex, that the "growing ones" get very confused.
The history of the WW2 or a Biography of a "warrior" like Eisenhower is much more insightful but in the end it always boils down to the conclusion, that with such a sophisticated moral conundrum we have to trust in the wisdom of our leaders.
As a father you also can not afford being a pessimist so you have to believe in the "good will" of these leaders and their "good intentions". I realize that it is nearly impossible with a leader like Bush - but hopeful "change" is on the way.

I would be delighted if we could forge a foreign policy that would end the need for any more wars or interventions and our military would only be large enough to help on humanitarian disasters and we wouldn’t even need to use the word military.
We couldn't agree more and we thank everybody for one of the most helpful threads we have read on Salon -
(only Bucky might be overestimating "the power" of the Swiss army. In Europe today they are treated as some kind of a joke and it is still suspected, that Hitler only aborted operation Tannenbaum because he wanted to use Switzerland as some kind of Nazi Bank - sorry - couldn't resist)

[Read the article: Michael Mukasey's tearful lies]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]- and we worked extensively in "common sense" and Dan's suggestion might be still waay too long and waay to "lawyerly -(if there is a world like that)
You start with cute little children lying in bed and a red telephone is ringing. A hand picks it up and a scary voice says: Who is listening to your calls?
You show a computer screen with "PROTECT AMERICA!" in the middle and somebody is writing:
"God have mercy" - and again the scary voice cuts in with:
"Who is reading your e-mails"?
- and again see the cute little children, who are now wide awake and they talk to each other and one says: "It's the government, stupid" - and another one says...
"Don't call me stupid I know that they are spyin on us!
- and you show a picture of Congressman Chris Carney and the scary voice says -
"Chris Carney has been voting -- time after time -- to give the Bush administration whatever they want".
- and again you show the innocent children - now having a pillow fight and the voice over is telling -"To spy on American citizens. To listen to our calls and read our
emails with no warrants!!
(please don't critizise "rich people" thats unAmerican)
And you show a big fat -
PROTECT AMERICA
from
the Protect America Act
on the computer screen -and a friendly picture of Chris Carney.
"Let's sent Chris Carnery to Congress to fight for our district and keep our nation both strong and free --
And the cutest kid will end with : "And he is a cool dude too!
(we got carried there a bit)

[Read the article: Michael Mukasey's tearful lies]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]one year to the day since I was diagnosed with "hebephrenia"
("word salad and loosing my inner Balance) and it has been kind of fun having such an unusual mental disorder. Family and friends seem to tolerate my "fleeting, fragmentary and unpredictable behaviour often accompanied by giggling or self-satisfied, self-absorbed actions, and they only worry sometimes about my superficial and manneristic preoccupation with religion philosophy, and other abstract themes which
makes it difficulty for them to follow the train of my thoughts. But one of my best friends is much worse of - He suffers from "Paranoia" and I think it has to do with the
two visits his family had from the F.B.I. But that's the disadvantage in having a very extensive family with a lot of ties to "Arabia".I always try to calm him down by telling him that all of our phones are "buged" and there is no "plan" there - because - as I mentioned already - I'm the one with the "disorganized mental disorder". But he keeps on insisting that all actions - even his own ones are being controlled by
an external force. Now that had us worried a little and we took him to our "Hauspsychiater" but he told us - "as long as it doesn't become "pathological" it's "okay" - Wasn't that a big relieve - but what I really wanted to write about was my favorite T-shirt it says:"sprechen sie langsam ich bin blond" -"speak slowly I am blond" AND I am 1/32 Indian (Paiute) too!
