Signing statements...

I think this is the crux of the matter. Here is a list of the signing statements. The one I find the most interesting related to this conversation accompanies the HJ Resolution 114 " To authorize the use of United States Armed Forces against Iraq".

Quote:"The debate over this resolution in the Congress was in the finest traditions of American democracy. There is no social or political force greater than a free people united in a common and compelling objective. It is for that reason that I sought an additional resolution of support from the Congress to use force against Iraq, should force become necessary. While I appreciate receiving that support, my request for it did not, and my signing this resolution does not, constitute any change in the long-standing positions of the executive branch on either the President's constitutional authority to use force to deter, prevent, or respond to aggression or other threats to U.S. interests or on the constitutionality of the War Powers Resolution. On the important question of the threat posed by Iraq, however, the views and goals of the Congress, as expressed in H.J. Res. 114 and previous congressional resolutions and enactments, and those of the President are the same."

Let's ask all of the Presidential candidates if they believe the right to issue these statements will be part of the powers they will obtain upon becoming President? This should be the number one priority to restore our nation back from the monarchy it has become.

this is the line that keeps popping up...

in a manner consistent with the constitutional authorities of the President to supervise the unitary executive branch and to withhold information the disclosure of which could impair foreign relations, the national security, the deliberative processes of the Executive, or the performance of the Executive's constitutional duties.

Will HRC or Obama be able to attach this to every bill they sign too?

Just what do the conservatives have to show for themselves?

All Mona Charen could come up with is Barak Obama doesn't love his country. These stooge support systems don't DO anything. Name one major accomplishment of the conservative movement in the last 7 years. Smaller government? States Rights? No Nation building? Abortion rights legislation? What a ruse. That's all they have left is to look down their noses hoping that they can with all of their wisdom make a Dean Scream moment happen. Guess what it hasn't happened yet. Poor little conservatives just have to whine and protect each other. Time for regime change of our own folks.

What happened for six years?

For six years The White House, the House and the Senate were a controlling majority lead by the Republican party. Why wasn't this the greatest of tragedies resolved then? Really, if they couldn't do it, who could? Why should the Mrs. and Mr. Obama be held to a standard that even candidates who were elected as pro life candidates couldn't meet? Conservatism, the greatest ruse ever.

At the same time...

the Pentagon was limiting access to memorial services for the service men that were being exploited by this propaganda scheme. I found it very striking that after never making a feature out of any particular deaths, the one time the Iranians were supposedly involved, Barbara Starr from CNN did a special report on the 5 soldiers that were casualties of that skirmish, including unique accessed video footage of the remains being returned. Barbara Starr ought to be held just as accountable as any of those analysts for mainlining the Pentagon's Koolaid and trying to elevate the Iranian threat as well.

Why wouldn't McCain nuke Iran?

If the Powell doctrine is to be used and our moral standing in the world is as low as it could possibly get, why wouldn't McCain nuke Iran? If he firmly believes that conviction to utter destruction of the enemy is necessary, as he apparently thought annihilating Viet Nam would ride us of an SE Asian threat of Communism, what's to stop him from precluding that radical Shia Islam shouldn't be stopped as the phantom menace it has been presented as, just like Communism did? He's consistent isn't he? Sometime the most mysterious thing is a fact clearly stated.

I don't think he's delusional...

I think the public has tolerated fear of the boogeyman that a select 20% of the country propagates. Just kill the bad guys and wreck their games. The problem lies in the fact that it's OUR Constitution and OUR rule of law to be forfeited to the warmongers. Their perpetual cycle of economic benefits from engaging in destruction as a business is just too good of a thing to not continue for those who it embrace it. Obama has been called Chamberlain and Marx. I think the right is very clear about sustaining this fear of the boogeyman. It's simply preserving their own best interests. We need more Russ Feingold, less Joe Liberman.I'm constantly amazed by how little real power the legal profession has when it comes to fighting this administration. Couple of books, a few seminars, Glenn, Scott Horton but really what has changed? Michael Mukasey is still attorney General isn't he? He's a liar isn't he? Well?

Keep this one handy...

Please don't forget to remind the Republicans, especially conservatives, about their previous thoughts on Sen. Mc Cain.
