    Nothing Improper
    By Alberto R. Gonzales
My decision some months ago to privately seek the resignations . . . erupted into a public firestorm . . . I apologize . . . for my role in allowing this matter to spin into an undignified Washington spectacle . . . What began as a well-intentioned management effort . . . I know that I did not -- and would not -- ask for the resignation of any U.S. attorney for an improper reason. Given my convictions . . . While I have never sought to deceive Congress or the American people, I also know that I created confusion with some of my recent statements . . . I know the real strength of America. It lies in our Constitution, our people and our collective unyielding commitment to equal opportunity, equal justice, common decency and fairness. With this same commitment in my mind, I very much look forward to answering Congress's questions about this matter on Tuesday.
The writer is the U.S. attorney general.

I'm pretty good with "The Google", so I did a web search, and I verified that the last sentence is true - - the writer is the U.S. attorney general.

The Real Story about the Iraqi Parliament Bombing
    Posted By Blackfive
    From a StateDept source . . .

. . . depite the reporting I've heard from CNN, BBC and NPR, which keeps up the ominous drone of doom about the terrorists breaching the Parliament buliding in "the heart of the heavily fortified Green Zone," the FACT is the Parliament buliding is NOT IN the Green Zone . . . I am beginning to believe there is something else going on here that this episode illustrates, which in an unfortunately perverse way, suggests deeper progresss . . . a real paradigm shift . . . we can prevail . . . it is we that must prevail.

    (2) Gee Ee! We bring good things to life department.

Anyone who has watched this program over the years can see how its pundits have now been trained. In particular, O’Donnell has been remade by NBC in the past year (warmed up); she now laughs uproariously at any comment that is even mildly intended as humor. Anyone who has watched her over the years know this is not her natural conduct. But NBC is paying her millions — and she’s been told what to say, how to act.

We need a new word for people who are paid to simulate pleasure.

    (3) Religion department. The "Triune God" is a reference to the trinitarian doctrine(s) accepted by most Christian sects. Apparently some of the folks at Redstate believe that Jesus was a sockpuppet and/or they believe that Glenn Greenwald is God.

    (4) Geography department. I'm tempted to say that Iraq's Parliament building is undeniably within the "green" zone, but blackfive and his "StateDept source" (see item # 1) would just deny it again, and explain to us that if CNN and NPR said it then it must be false.

    (5) Department of Reynolds pandering to his base.

Do I "believe in" global warming? In the sense that the world seems to be warmer now than in recent history, yes. The more apocalyptic scenarios seem to me to remain unproven, but certainly cause for concern. Do I believe that global warming is anthropogenic? Not so clear. Plausible, but still far from certain. Does this matter? Probably not. Regardless of what you think of the above, burning carbon is a lousy idea . . . the beauty of things from my perspective is that it doesn't matter, because my position doesn't turn on global warming one way or another . . .

    (6) Give war a chance department. It seems likely that sooner or later, the Conservative Party leader David Cameron will take charge of her majesty's government. The Daily Telegraph says that Cameron disagrees with those who find a pre-emptive war against Iran unthinkable. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/01/26/ntory26.xml

Mr Cameron said it would be wrong for a future Tory administration to rule out an attack on Iran.

    (7) Remembrance department. Chris Floyd has posted a very disturbing follow-up. http://chris-floyd.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1109

    (8) One more item. Tomorrow, Monday, is Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. We should remember the victims. We should remember the heroes. We should remember the many ways in which we have forgotten to "never forget."

    Peace.
