Nedra...again

Ms. Pickler is doing more than "unveiling," she's an integral part of the great spin machine. I fondly remember her stellar work during the 2004 campaign. For me, it certainly put to rest the myth that the Associated Press produces nonbiased "unfiltered" news. Ron Fournier is another one who bears close scrutiny.

Silly little detail

Although Howard Dean is eligible to vote in Vermont, I believe the governor is actually a native of New York.

Alex loves Obama

I've been a daily visitor to the War Room for a couple of years now, but lately when I visit I feel like I've accidentally been redirected to ObamaForPresident.com. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a rabid Hillary fan. I'm pretty much on the fence between the two. But, jeez, this Salon feature seems to have lost all objectivity. I'm questioning whether to re-up for another premium subscription when the bill becomes due. I can always tune in to MSNBC for this type of Hillary hatred.

Wishful thinking

So I suppose the staff at War Room is breaking out the bubbly. War Room is objectively anti-Hillary. I wonder why no one else will say it. You should rename this feature War Against Hillary Room. Question: If she does end up as the nominee, will you all vote for McCain?

'Scuse me

Even then, net-roots enthusiasm for Obama was mainly attributable to appreciation for his revolutionary use of Internet technologies to raise money and organize volunteers.

Um no. This revolution occurred during Howard Dean's campaign IIRC.

Election "Closeness"

may also be attributed to more Diebold hijinks as well as old-fashioned voter suppression.

Culture of life?

Someone should ask Governor Palin how the death threats hurled by her supporters fit in with the "culture of life" she tells us she would like to see in this country. Or is that just for zygotes?

@Mr. Bass Man

You are absolutely right.

Original article: "Puck you, Palin!"

This is not a good idea

After 8+ years of Republicans winning elections largely by whipping up fear--over terrorists, feminists, boys kissing, people hugging trees, etc.--the electorate actually has something to fear--spending their golden years sleeping in a cardboard box under the freeway. A pretty sizable proportion of the electorate is now looking to Obama for hope and encouragement. They have no stomach anymore for mud-slinging. IMHO, this "Puck you Palin" campaign will play right into the hands of the McCain/Palin campaign. BTW, when I clicked on that site, there was a huge McCain/Palin banner running across the top of the page. What was that all about?

Original article: Palin booed at Flyers game

Great Carnac (sic) indeed

This episode played out exactly how the McCain camp hoped. Obama supporters booing and hissing at Mrs. Hockey Mom and her little girl. Now she looks like the victim and the Republicans can boo-hoo all over talk radio and Fox News about those nasty nasty liberal Philadelphians. Frankly, as a Philadelphian and an Obama supporter, I'm very embarrassed.

conservative intelligentsia

Sadly, that term has become a paradox. I remember Chris Buckley's father's show (Firing Line?, can't remember the name and too lazy/tired right now to Google). In any case, William F. was witty and sophisticated (god forbid) and welcomed people of other opinions (as well as Arianna Huffington before she shifted left). The debates were thought provoking and educational. On the other hand, the new conservative movement eschews book learnin' and celebrates 17- and 18-year-olds who drop out of school because they're knocked up. (Well-connected WHITE kids, that is.) But this is what the Republicans have wrought. The party that represents 2% of the people holding 40% of the wealth in this country were actually very brilliant in their effort to get the average "joe" to think the Democrats represent the "elite." However, now the proverbial roosters are coming home to roost.

amoral realism?

What does that mean?

nasty robocalling

IIRC, McCain was doing this back in 2000 as well. So, apparently he hasn't changed much if at all. This perception of McCain as honorable is mainly the result of a heretofore adoring press corps (of which Klein was a member). Klein et al. should have had the courage to expose McCain's nasty robocalling 8 years ago, but McCain was such a great entertainer on the press bus. Still, I suppose, it's better late than never. Honestly, though, this image of McCain as some sort of fallen angel is one of the greatest myths of all time.

Brilliant move

A great way to further alienate undecided, independent voters, a very large proportion of whom live in "non-pro-American" metro areas. Guess those "big tent" days of the GOP are long gone. Are these idiots TRYING to lose this election?

Friday, October 17, 2008 03:37 PM

Smerconish....

...Has been slowly trending away from the dark side since he joined the Inquirer staff. His endorsement is going to have a lot of significance in the Philly metro area. He is going to have a lot of hate mail to read on Monday morning. I was never a fan, but I have to give him credit for this.

Monday, October 20, 2008 01:28 PM

Yeah

well I'm gonna go ahead and vote for Obama.

Re: Spam

What's a "plymber"? Does he mean "plumber"? Is the McCain campaign in such dire straits it can't afford a proofreader? Or maybe someone should show them how to use the MS Word spell check feature.

Book learnin's hard!

@FilthyHarry

IIRC, McCain slimed Bush pretty horribly in 2000 too. His campaign robocalled Catholic voters in Michigan to tell them that Bush is anti-Catholic. When some Bush supporters cried foul, McC denied having anything to do with it. After the Michigan primary, McC fessed up and admitted he did it. So not only was he being slimy, he lied about it. This incident didn't get much play with the pundits at the time because they were so hopelessly in love with McC, they should've gotten a room. So, unfortunately, it went down the memory hole, and "journalists" like Joe Klein who are now all ga-ga over Obama won't mention it as they would have to admit their abysmal failure to properly and truthfully inform the American electorate over the past 10 or so years.
