Time for some guts at the DNC
[Read the article: Fear of spying]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You would think that the Democratic consultants were moles planted by Bush, Inc. If Democratic candidates aren’t able to bring down the present bunch of crooks and liars then they do not deserve to lead the country. Let the Democrats set the agenda for a change. Here are the talking points that I think should be beaten to death on Sunday news shows and at press conferences. Every voter should know the following: 1. what the K-Street project is; 2. that Cheney did business with terrorist states; 3. that Cheney, Wolfowitz and others wanted Hussein overthrown long before Bush entered the Whitehouse; 4. that Bush has stacked his administration with industry insiders who continue to represent industry and not the American people (his administration is of the rich, by the rich, and for the rich) and because of this the Bush administration has the worst environmental record in modern times (why don’t environmental groups put out public service announcements?); 6. that the Bush administration is secretive, intrusive, power hungry, unaccountable, and all those other things that conservatives say they hate about big government (we have met the enemy and he is us); 7. that Republicans are responsible for the increase in pork-barrel spending; 8. that corruption never reached the present levels under a Democratically controlled congress and certainly we should all laugh at the fact that Republicans were suppose to bring integrity back to Washington. The best thing about being a Democrat is that we do not need to lie, distort, or exaggerate in order to discredit Bush and associates. They supply all of the ammunition anyone would need. Democrats can wait for the RNC to self-destruct if they like…I favor giving them a hand.

What's the context?
[Read the article: Back to the Dark Ages]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Despite having read several accounts of the pope's remarks as well as Bunting's commentary, I have no clue as to the pope's use of the Manuel II Paleologos quotation. Did he just use the quote out of the blue or was he illustrating some larger point? Everyone, including Salon, has repeated the quote but no one has given a synopsis of the speech in which it was used. How can we decide on the pope's intent if we don't know the context in which he used the citation?

Smoking Guns
[Read the article: Jean Schmidt: From calling out "cowards" to eating crow]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm surprised that campaigns don't use their opponents' words against them more often. Jon Stewart makes a living showing video clips of politicians saying one thing one day and then denying it the next. They once had a clever bit where they had Bush debating Bush using video segments where he directly contradicts himself. The RNC had the public parroting their view that John Kerry was a flip-flopper. The DNC could have responded by showing the Bush vs. Bush debate as a campaign spot and then asking, "Who's the flip-flopper?" And then there are all the brilliant quotes that could be used like: "Iraq will be a cakewalk", "I doubt we'll be in Iraq six months", "Iraqi oil will pay for reconstruction", etc. The Republicans can be so easily shown to be intellectually dishonest and hypocritical. The video is there, why isn't it used more often?

Big Dick
[Read the article: The madness of George]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Cheney didn't have trouble sitting down with hostile regimes when he was head of Halliburton. I guess that tells you about his priorities.

the problem with spoiled children
[Read the article: Senate committee approves anti-escalation resolution]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]George grew up getting whatever he wanted. All he ever had to do was ask and dad or dad's friends fixed his DUI problems, got him into the National Guard, got him out of the National Guard, got him into Yale, got him into Harvard, made him rich, made him governor, made him President. Now he's gotten himself into a mess he can't just demand his way out of and I'm sure in his mind he just thinks it's a matter of finding someone competent enough to carry out his ideas. He should have stuck with dad's friends instead of trying to strike out on his own.

Policy wonk vs. inspirational leader
[Read the article: A Democratic donnybrook]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You should reread the letter titled "X's and O's vs. Inspiration" and give it a star and send a copy to Clinton headquarters. Clinton may know policy but she fails to understand that Presidents aren't elected based on knowledge, intellect or competence but how they make people feel. If that were not true, then we would never have heard of George Bush. The ability to inspire is a huge part of the job and Clinton seems only to inspire her adversaries.

Try outs
[Read the article: Let 'em duke it out]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Instead of fighting each other, I would like to see the Obama and Clinton campaigns run against McCain. Whoever does the best job gets the nomination.
