Legalize it...
[Read the article: The economics of prostitution]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And by "it" I mean everything when it comes to personal choice. Get the government out of the marriage business and have it focus on personal contract and I don't care who's thingy you like to stimulate...or how many. Our insistance on monogamy is yet another intrusion into our private lives by religion. Kick that stinkin' cheeze out of the public's awareness and keep it where those who like it can enjoy it. Really do we have the right to infuse a public place with Limburger cheese just because some deluded worry wart likes it?
As for those who think that the cheated wives are victims of this victimless crime...if your partner goes to a pro, maybe you should be arrested for neglect and breach of contract.
I'm always suspect of any arrangement that has government, religion and big business happily giving each other blowjobs on my dime. Oh...didn't you know? The prison industry's contributions to our oh so moral leadership sees to it that the cells will remain profitably full...of humans innocent of any crime that actually hurts others in meaningfull ways.
I would like to see prisons filled with cops that break the law..they have special perogatives and they should be judge more severly. If they cant live above the law, they certainly shouldn't be given every benefit of doubt when they break it.

Two Fisted Fightin' Jeezus!
[Read the article: Who would Jesus punch?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In the church of the sub-genious one occasionally hears of an incarnation of the divine known as the two-fisted fightin' jesus. Not such a bad idea, actually and adheres closely to the gnostic concepts that see a world of balance and symetry...of course, mainstream Xians, like most big religions that are pre-digested for the ignorant masses, are more enthralled by the story such that you can get killed for insulting Mohammed's imaginary winged horse, or whatever.
Who knows what the real Jesus, or the guys whose stories were themselves encorporated into the mythological conglomeration now called Jesus, was actually like. If he was anything like an enlightened being he probably had good reflexes if for no other reason than to avoid the punches relious conservatives of his day would have been hurling non-stop, just as they do today at anything that varies from the officially sanctioned version.
And now for the cage match, Team Jehovah with Jesus and Lucifer paired off against the Yacatismo brothers in a east versus west grudge match to see who will go to...Valhallah for super sunday!

Who trust to do what with ethanol?
[Read the article: Who do you trust on ethanol?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Who do I trust will find a way to turn anything into an excess of greed and mindless carelessness? Oh, the same guys that make so much excess money that they can buy the congress so that no matter what the solution is they will find a way to engorge it with tax dollars and then squeeze the last drop of blood the golden egg until the goose drops like a canary in a coal mine (pardon my mixed metaphores). But who can blame 'em? With giant budgets and huge income from income taxes paired with the well known human frailty of insecurity and insatiable hunger for power, also known as "our government", what else would they do but buy lock stock and barrel the very organization that is supposed to oversee the management of whatever social good we are trying to achieve...which is why a small governement, but one with great powers to enforce the law on corporations is such a good idea, just as our founding fathers advocated and why I'm tossing my support to Ron Paul.

Better than taxing us to then give to...who?
[Read the article: Bill Gates and Wal-Mart want to save the world]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]All things considered, I suppose Gates and WallMart have as good a chance of getting something done as would yet another bloated government program which carries with it the added burden of presenting an irresistable temptation to any would be corrupt lobbyist of government official (oh, but I am being somewhat redundant there). It will be interesting to compare the progress that those concerned with applying their vast wealth to improve the lot of their consumers will achieve and compare that to Google.org's approach of not operating as a tax-deductable activity, and therefore better able to directly approach the problems without the constrain that is applied when one does things for a tax deduction.

Pollution and environement is not Global Warming?
[Read the article: TV news is too cool]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]One comment all but accusses a pollster of not being realistic because the only category for which global warming would fit was pollution/environment. Well?
If the level of frantic panic that's being nurtured by those who wish to see some sort of immediate remedy for what their 8th grade understanding of atmospheric science says must be global warming due to the CO2 from our smokestacks, then we are screwed.
CO2 is pollution first and foremost. It's not some exotic monster waiting to leap onto us and there should be a measure of shame levelled at those who are encouraging it.
How much of the summer sea ice in the arctic is cause by the very same soot producing chinese coal fired generators? OH, we don't know? How much of sinking sea coast is due to our building on delta deposits that are naturally de-watering due to natural process, not rising sea levels...not sure? Geeze...and how much drier will the atacama desert be with global warming..or will it be actually wetter? Geeze...we don't know. I'm not using lack of knowledge to say we should do nothing but if we do anything at all please let's consider the likelihood that those in panic are not observing with the degree of objective realism we need to commit to a world wide effort that helps and doesn't cause the destructio of displacement we will see if we run around will nilly.
