This is scary stuff

As a non-American, I always thought that the Bush years were an aberration and that the rights and freedoms enshrined in your constitution for which America is famous would, under Obama, eventually be reasserted, and the US would once again be a country to aspire to and not to be feared and despised.

But with this latest ruling, it looks as if that day is still a long way off, if it ever arrives at all.

It'll never work

If you attempt the pompous rant that CT suggests, you'll regret it.

You'll mistime it, or forget the script, or muck it up. Or he'll interrupt you, or laugh in your face, or find some other way to make you look stupid. Forget it.

You've got two options:

1) Don't let him get away with it. Fight your corner every step of the way and shoot down his arguments every time he goes off on one. Make sure you're well-informed; make him look stupid and ill-informed. This will be very tough but you've got to make it tough for him as well. Eventually, with a bit of luck, it'll just be more trouble than it's worth for him to keep banging away with his nonsense.

2) Leave the company.

Option 3) - suck it up - will just leave you feeling bitter and angry and you'll dread going to work in the morning.

What are you trying to prove?

Some of these little niggly things go on in any game of football but most of Lambert's fouls were bad fouls and she should have been shown a yellow or a red card - and that would be true in both the men's and the women's games.

And, no, fouls like that do NOT happen all the time in the professional leagues. She's a dirty player.

Men are generally more aggressive than women and that tends to show itself on the football pitch. So what? That doesn't mean that women can't also be aggressive. I don't understand what has pinged Broadsheet's radar here.

Quelle surprise

It's always been obvious that the vicious US response to Islamic terrorism is just breeding more terrorism. What I still can't get my head around is why so many people apparently can't see this.

Do they really believe that more and more aggression against Muslims is going to end Islamic terror? I just can't believe they can be that stupid.

And if they're not actually that stupid, then what? Do they want endless war? Do they see the 'War on Terror' as a necessary and desirable replacement for the Cold War? Or is it about oil? Or Israel? Or what?

Why do you call them 'moderates'?

No way is the likes of a Joe Lieberman a moderate.

He and the other 'moderates' want to block a watered-down public option that would at least go some way towards ensuring affordable healthcare is available to all the country's citizens - something that most other advanced countries take for granted.

To deny this to your citizens in order to keep the insurance industry happy is not a 'moderate' position.

Original article: Praying for Obama's death

'Solid theological ground'?

Who cares whether this vile man is on 'solid theological ground' with his imprecatory prayers?

This is hate speech pure and simple, publicly urging the death of another person, and is as foul as any jihadist preaching for death of the infidel.

It's irrelevant whether you think it might be validated by some religious text. This man needs to be publicly exposed and widely ridiculed.
