So damnthatxanadu gets to play God and decide where those 200k+ uncommitted votes should be allocated? How do you know some of those uncommitted votes wouldn't be HRC votes if Biden and Edwards (and others) were off the ballot at the time of the primary? You don't, which is why the results are invalid.

Before damnthatxanadu jumps all over the fact the I put the wrong listed vs unlisted candidates in my last post, you get my point. The point is that you are assuming voter intent vv those who voted uncommitted. You don't know what they intended, so it's dead wrong to assume that, given the candidates remaining in the race, uncommitted would now mean a vote for Obama. It could mean a vote for HRC as well. We. Don't. Know.

You know what, asshole, try positing a theory that holds water.

You have no idea what an "uncommitted" vote meant in Michigan. You are assuming that every uncommitted vote was a vote for Obama.

What if an uncommitted vote was actually a vote for Edwards? And what if that person who voted for Edwards would have choosen HRC if Edwards had been out of the race at the time of the Michigan primary (Richardson had already dropped out, but Edwards was still in)? You have no idea what that uncommitted voter intended.

I, for one, would be furious if my "uncommitted" vote was allocated to Obama if I had no intention of ever voting for Obama.

It could go either way, and for that reason, the results as they stand are invalid.

But hey, keep being an asshole if it makes you feel better.

Jeez, I'm behind. I'm still stuck on my White Russians (thanks to The Dude).

I take exception with one thing you said:

I was (and still am) a band geek. My first date ever was with a cheerleader, and I did just fine, sir.

I think Federer escapes the same criticisms Sampras faced because if not for Nadal, Federer would have more than a couple French titles. Federer is without question one of the best clay-court players in the world. He just has the misfortune of competing in an era that his given us the greatest clay-court player of all time. Sampras was not even close to Federer on clay.

I thought he was great as "Eggr" (or so his wife called him) in Men In Black.

  • No more exclusives - totally agree.

Someone earlier (donjohn?) brought up the point of eliminating the exclusive broadcast rights. I think this is a great idea! Let the individual broadcasters bid on specific sports, especially ones they are good at. Can you imagine TNT covering the basketball? I also suspect we'd see some the more ambitious little guys, like Versus, pick up the sports many of us actually do want to see.

Whatever happened to the good old days of competition? NBC has it way too easy.

  • I play with my kids AND watch the Olympics.

Who says you can't do both? And you know, sometimes watching an event on TV is a great segue to going outside and actually playfully attempting the event. My kids love that.

Sheesh, cletus. I DO live my life, thank you very much.

  • Icee Hockey

[Read the article: Good riddance, baseball]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The only problem I have with hockey as a summer sport is that it's played on, uh, ice.

And while I wholeheartedly agree with dumping baseball, I don't agree with dumping softball or tennis. I think to many of the tennis players, particularly the European ones, the Olympics are just as important as the major tournaments. Sure, it helps that they only happen every four years and fall between Wimbledon and the US Open when they do happen (usually), but I do think they are a good part of the olympic stew. Federer seemed devastated in his loss to Blake, and Blake's elation was obvious.

Speaking of the Olympic stew - here is the recipe for how to kill the Olympic spirit: Start with 10 minutes of of a random sport in which an American did well, then follow with a fluff piece du jour (notwithstanding whether or not it's done by Mary Carillo, who I think is great). Add beach volleyball, swimming, and finally gymnastics. Rinse. Repeat.

At first I thought the primetime coverage was pretty good. However, until there is a major shift in the event schedule, which won't happen for a few more days, I'm more interested in watching the Dodgers sweep the Phillies.

  • I agree...

[Read the article: Memo to NBC gymnastics commentators: Shut up!]

... with the previous post (sesanders).

One thing this article didn't mention was how Daggett came to his conclusion that Liukin's routine was better - by noticing what should have been called as deductions and why! We watch these events with an amateurs eyes. If I had watched with the sound off, I'd probably think the two routines were similar as well. But I'm glad I didn't have the sound off, because now I know that that little leg spread was a deduction, and that the inadequate hand stand was a deduction, and that the step on the landing was a deduction. It is an artistic event (Women's Artistic Gymnastics), but there is more to the judging than personal taste.

And I have to chuckle about the previous post praising Australian broadcasts for not being so pro-US. Um, maybe because it was an Australian broadcast? I downloaded some of the broadcasts, and they were no less pro-Aussie/Kiwi than NBC is pro-US.

If you hate NBC that much, do what someone else said and watch the Spanish broadcast. And learn nothing about a sport you only pay attention to once every four years.

Oh, and udflyersfan, I watched plenty of baseball, archery and indoor cycling. I actually watched more indoor cycling and triathalon today than I ever thought I would in my entire life. It's all there. Make an effort. In this day and age, with DVRs and internet access, you have no excuse other than being lazy.
