[Read more letters about this article: Here]originated in 19th century America and was used to describe the paid accomplice of a snake oil salesman who would stand up during the products sales pitch and attest to its efficacy while pretending to be uninvolved. It is not surprising in the least to hear that the author of this garbage is on the payroll of Boris Johnson and the money-worshipping Tories. It IS surprising that Salon didnt see fit to mention this in her bio.
