The new drug of choice is the sensation I get feeling the utterly grotesque amount of schadenfreude watching the Republican machine meltdown. And Mr. Krugman is one of my favorite sources for this wonderful new drug.

I hate that "tipping point" business, but my latest theory is - like Bush's daddy's "read my lips" utterance - Bush and the Republicans are going to pay dearly for "compassionate conservatism"; especially after Bush's veto of the SCHIP legislation heading toward his desk. It's going to give Middle America the armature upon which to hang their exploding (subprime meltdown, among many other things, will provide the thrust) resentment. Boom!

Whatever happened to Mrs. Olson? I like her better.

P.S. If Hillary Clinton votes for that FISA bill that includes retroactive immunity for telecoms, I will simply not vote for her. Like Dianne Feinstein, I will not give Republicans (stealth, or otherwise) my vote. Period.

Sadly, I think this has more to do with the American public than the lack of color in the Republican candidates. Remember, almost half of this country voted for Bush in the first place - and honey, just one look at THAT and I knew it wasn't a nice picture. There's really something deeply wrong with the American people; I just know in my heart Finland would never do this.

For me this is the last straw with the Dems. Anyone of them vote the "wrong way" on this FISA bill, and I just simply will not vote for them come election time. I'll just opt for the Peace and Freedom party, or something. Period.

Not necessarily a reflection on Gingrich, John and Teresa Heinz Kerry recently came out with a book called 'This Moment on Earth'. It's great that influential people are sounding the environmental alarm, but in the Kerry's instance, we're talking about people with five personal residences, not to mention the carbon footprint every one of their stocks has. As far as I'm concerned, their message may ring true, but delivered by them it rings hollow.

Capitalism is killing the environment. To riff on something Bill Clinton once said: "it's the economy, stupid".
