Capitalism is evil, evil, evil... That said, and out of the way.

If I were Bernanke and Paulson, I'd bail out AIG. I suppose, with a wink and a nod - theoretically at least - America can write itself and IOU until hell freezes over if everyone is willing to go along with it; (heh, heh) I mean, it is just only money - right? The way I see it, it's better to have balloon deflate, even rapidly, than pop; that way it buys everyone time to commit triage instead of the Titanic going thunk without anyone being to deploy at least a few lifeboats.

But, what bugs me, and I'm sure all here would agree, is if a someone went into a bank without a gun and passed a note and said: "hand over the money", they would go to jail, regardless. And these fuckers (pardon my French) are probably not even going to get a slap on the wrist, at worst they will have there golden parachutes denied them; and that's just a crock of very smelly elephant shit.

I know there are two very, very happy people right now, experiencing massive amounts of schadenfreude: Dmitry Medvedev and Vladimir Putin.

This is all very riveting though, in a Neroist sort way... Yeehaw!!

Original article: Sarah Palin's wasteful ways

WHOAH!!!

Check out that AP photo used for this article by Al Grillo! That's some very red lipstick Sarah is wearing. You know what the Bible says about ladies who wear the color red don't you?

Hockey moms and pit pulls in oh my!! Sin, sin, sin and more sin.

Thomas Mathus is spinning in his grave laughing hysterically as us.

My prescription for stabilizing or reducing human population (not in any particular order):

* Absolute equal rights for women (including reproductive rights!)

* Totally subsidized education for all, K through B.A. (including comprehensive sex education, of course).

* Cities and other forms of concentrated human domiciliary (leave open spaces for wildlife and some agriculture)

* Vegetarianism and severe reduction of consumption of vertebrate derived animal protein .

* Massive development and reduction in sustainable energy methods (No nuclear energy!! All forms of solar, especially solar thermal).

* Freedom of religion as well as freedom from religion.

* A massive change in human attitudes towards valuation (we need to stop being gratuitous property junkies!).

If we did these, and maybe a few others, things would take care of themselves. I'm very pessimistic though. *sigh* Just look at America's current economic mess.

Original article: The "retarded" renaissance

The strange quicksilver that is language.

Once upon a time the word Negro - a perfectly good Spanish and Latin word for the color black - was the "correct" usage to denote a person from the Sub-African region of the African continent. Today say that word, except in very specific circumstances, and you're making a pretty big faux pas; you're being extremely condescending at best, racist at worst. Now, of course, it's Afro-American or usually African American - interestingly and ironically Caucasian is still OK and people don't bother with European American (but, I guess that's OK, too).

When I was still in high school, my sister did volunteer work at the local school for developmentally disabled kids. When discussions about it arose - my mother, who was highly educated - would would refer to those kids as "defectives"... (Whoah!!) My sister would become totally freaked out, and say: "The word is RETARDED!" My mother liked to needle.

Interestingly, another word for late, is tardy; a perfectly acceptable word. Also, the the word for late in Spanish is, tarde. One more thing: I'm gay and used to commonly refer to myself as a "fag" or "faggot" (never in mixed company, though), and this would sometimes pluck feathers... I now prefer to refer to myself as a "queen", That's still OK, isn't it?

@Alkaline

And at least half of the American electorate is going to swallow it, hook, line and (eh,hem) sinker.

God, I hope I'm wrong!

"My friends". "My friends." "My friends". My friends." My friends". "My friends"...

GACK!!!!

George Bush and his cronies...

Sunny day Capitalists; rainy day Socialists. Both ways, the average taxpayer gets screwed

Great post. Totally riveting this whole drama is.

And for once may the craven Democrats finally have some cahones!!

Mushroom clouds. MUSHROOOOM CLOUDS!

...Mushroom clouds will breakout over Wall St. and Tokyo and America 'n stuff if we don't pass this bill right now! *sob*

Maybe tax payers and the citizenry are getting tired of this song. Snookered once, shame-on-you. Snookered twice, shame-on-me. It's going to be interesting to see how the blame gets buttered around come election day.

@sorenreport

No bill, not 700 bil. So I guess that means the meltdown is on.

U.S. to world: We're too big to fail

And... Neener-neener-neener.

That's it! You hit the nail right on the head with this post.

The topic of this post clearly illustrates this exact kind of moral duplicity which is the hallmark of the reactionary mind-set. A vacuum the size of a black hole exists when it comes to wingnuts having it morally both ways; topped-off with the arch and self-righteous certitude in which their hypocrisy comes wrapped-up in. The idea of the pot calling the kettle black is a concept that just doesn't compute in any rational sense in the minds of people like John Yoo.

Monday, October 6, 2008 06:18 AM

Wow!

There was no doubt in my mind Springsteen is a brilliant song writer, but dang! That speech had tears welling up. When reading (or hearing) things like that, it gives me a genuine flicker of hope.

McCain campaign's big mistake.

The news sure doesn't look good, does it? And depending how bad the economic news continues to get, voters are not only NOT going to care one hoot if Obama said hello and shook hands with Bill Ayers, they're going to feel mighty patronized by that tactic...

Which I, of course, consider really, really great news - more the guaranty Obama may win.

It's sad when it comes to this.

I ask Sarah Palin:

Charles Keating? Phil Gramm? Sarah honey, Is your cast-iron kettle calling the tin cup heavy?

Monday, October 6, 2008 02:05 PM

Gee, that'd be nice.

Golly, I hope you're right.

Tuesday, October 7, 2008 07:14 AM

Well, dang!

If China is an officially communist nation, there's simply no reason we can't go on believing we're a capitalist one; even though we're waaaaaay more socialist than ever before.

*Tee-hee* ...And to think this was the Republicans doing.

Original article: Ugly time

How low will the McCain campaign go?

Just like the economy, the lower the better; because all it will do is nothing but hurt him... And then we'll have Obama. Yay!!
