Whither now, Salon? Down the road to MSM land, too?
Hey, hold your horses - is the NH primary over already and you have a seer who tells the future sitting right next to you? Early returns show a tie between Clinton and Obama.
Go join the rest of the Hillary-pounders in the MSM, Mr Shapiro.
Omigod, agree totally with Anonymous - these were some of the most condescending and arrogant words to come out of anyone in this campaign! Has the Iowa CAUCUS win already gone to Obama's head? (Not to mention his supporters', who all but have declared the primaries to be over after Iowa.)
Eek. The anti-Hillary collusion between Edwards (who seemed more favourable to me until last night's debate) and now-walking-on-water, beatified by the MSM, Saint "Hope" Obama was pretty obvious as well.
They're still chattering away, oblivious to what the reality is at this very moment, and will continue to do so till kingdom come.
To Mr Watts: Thank you so much for helping make Salon the smart and snazzy online mag that it is today.
I was really touched, among other things, by the bit about daughter Cady saving up her babysitting money to send her parents to a Hawaii vacation. Wonderful story of real family love that makes one feel good amid the nastiness of the current election season.
...Salon even plasters a giant closeup pic of Diana to go with this article - by gods, can't you even spare your readers this most irritating display of tabloid-style photography? Will Joan Walsh ever return to the journalist she once was? Will Salon ever reverse course from this downhill path towards People and US Magazine?
I vote for taking down that photograph that merely assaults the senses, and relegating the article to the side bars. Based on the content of every single letter here, this new blog by Tina Brown on a long-dead celebrity (who gave the world - what, exactly? The genuine humanitarian who died that same year, as the other letter poster pointed out, was Mother Teresa!) is a complete waste of everyone's time, and of Salon's precious megabytes. For this I'm paying good money? Say it ain't so, Salon.
We don't need yet another story on Princess Diana - has the press not had enough of this tale yet? And why is Salon reviving this subject today? What pertinence does it have to anyone reading this on this day? And why, for heaven's sake, should we care about how Diana became a humanitarian (if that's truly to be believed)?
Salon, please, PLEASE, just let this go...preferably into the sewer system where all those other useless, gossipy tales about Di and her kind have and should have gone. Ugh. Boo to Tina Brown and Salon for allowing this to see the light.
...I hope that Sacha Baron Cohen and his producers decide to compensate Dharma Arthur for her job loss resulting from Borat's disaster-causing appearance on that TV show, though. You have to feel bad for her and her major loss, if that story is true.
...and moving review. Can't wait for it to hit my local cinema screens! As for the alleged spoilers? What is there in the article that the whole world doesn't already know about this episode in the Queen's life?
Thank you, Ms Zacharek. I always look forward to reading your posts, and enjoy them regardless of whether I agree with them or not. Keep writing!
Just got SHOWTIME tonight to see what the fuss was all about and caught the tail end of marathon reruns of Season 1. Well, "Weeds" is wonderful, witty, wacky and wise, affecting and annoying all at once. Great showcase for the underappreciated talents of Mary-Louise Parker and Elizabeth Perkins (who look so alike they could be sisters). Looking forward to more of "Weeds"! Showtime sure is giving HBO a run for its money.
...but I couldn't bear one minute of Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane. Parker Posey would've made a superior Lois to the bland, irritable Miss Bosworth.
As for the rest of the review, I agree completely. Long live Superman!

...I'm hoping that "Marie Antoinette" is better than it sounds from Andrew O'Hehir's report. An 18th century period picture set to 21st century rock/pop? Er, I'm not so sure I like that trick. Is there any plot or story to the film? The trailer looked so promising, too. Just hope it doesn't disappoint too much when it finally hits the US theaters, re-edited or not.
...constantly criticizing the critic on Salon? I say, post your own opinion instead, and just keep writing, Stephanie - even if I may disagree with you at times!
As for Ms. Stone, she manages to rise above the material a lot of the time. Besides those movies already mentioned, there's also the Stone-produced "The Quick and the Dead" from '95, which was still loads of fun to watch despite all the Western film cliches - thanks in large part to Sharon Stone's credible performance in it.
