Strange bedfellows

How interesting to see someone who goes by "American Fascist" spring to the defense of Rev. Wright by blaming this on the "Jewmedia".

I can't imagine anyone using that name is any fonder of African-Americans than people who are Jewish so I suppose the idea is to divide and conquer people who should be allies, not enemies, let us destroy each other and then claim America for the white supremacists

Wright is wrong

Those who forgive Wright by saying he's just an ignorant old fool should take a look at the 89-year-old murderer at the Holocaust Museum today.

Such hatred should be condemned by all, especially by any member of a minority who knows what it is like to be judged not by their deeds or their character but their race or religion.

Those white supremacists who hate Jews, Rev. Wright, also hate you but instead of banding together against a common enemy, we fall into the trap of letting them divide and conquer us.

Obama drama

If people who don't like the president's policies would limit themselves to discussing why they disagree with them instead of falling back on words like socialist, fascist (not sure how he could be both, but oh well...) and AntiChrist, perhaps we could actually have rational debate about the real issues in our nation instead of the bizarre insanity that is driving moderates out of the GOP.

Barry Goldwater, the father of the modern conservative movement, warned about letting the religious right take over the Republican party and attempting to turn their religious beliefs into law

Anti-Israel?

There is a difference between being anti-Israel and anti-Semitic and, Goodbye to All That, your letter proves that you are the latter.

How very ironic that it is precisely because of people like you who tried to wipe out an entire religion that there is a state of Israel. When the world witnessed what had occurred during the Holocaust, it let its conscience be its guide in establishing a safe haven for the remnants of European Jewry that remained after more than two-thirds had been slaughtered by the Nazis.

Your rhetoric would do Adolph Hitler proud, and I quote from your posting:

"Send in the troops and kill and kick out all the Jews..... Then tear down that stupid western wall and destroy all physical evidence of their gutter religion so they have nothing left to go back to..."

Goodbye to All That, the only way to even begin to have a rational discussion about the Middle East is to get rid of the flamethrowers on both sides, those who think Israel can do no wrong and those like you who believe it can do no right and who use the situation in the Middle East as an excuse to promote their hatred of all Jewish people.

Original article: Thank you, Pat Leahy

Whig-ing Out

Putting aside Judge Sotomayor's opinion on Ricci, which is being misrepresented, and her out-of-context quote, does the GOP, which already has alienated many Latinos with its hardline stance on immigration, really want to do even more to drive out those Hispanics who remain in their party by using "racism" charges to attack her?

By doing so, they may move even more states such as Arizona into the Democratic column, continuing their decline into a Southern regional party composed primarily of old white men. They are following in the footsteps of the Whig Party, who at one point included such national figures as Daniel Webster, Henry Clay and a young Abraham Lincoln but was destroyed by the issue of slavery.

Original article: Cheney lives on

Tortured past

Dick Cheney's continuing defense of torture, torture which experts say was ineffective in garnering information, is appalling.

Waterboarding has been favored as a torture technique because it leaves no marks and has been used by everyone from those conducting the Spanish Inquisition to the Khmer Rouge. I am ashamed that my nation has joined the ranks of such evil regimes.

I cannot understand why the Democratic party did not move on impeachment when so many of the illegal and unconstitutional acts of the previous administration were known years ago.

I was among those who thought after President Obama was elected, we should move on since our nation is facing so many challenges at home and abroad.

But Cheney's continued picking at this scab makes it appear he is the one who wants a full investigation of what was done, despite all the harm that may do to our nation. And frankly, President Obama's indecision on the matter is not making him look good either.

Perhaps it will take a full disclosure of the sins committed in the name of the War on Terror, a war which cannot be won by our side emulating terrorist behavior, before we can truly cleanse our country's soul and not sound like those Germans who said after WW II that they didn't know what was happening or were only following orders.

Congratulations, Sen. Spector

Although I have been a registered Democrat for all my voting life, I had planned to switch my registration in order to be able to vote for Arlen Spector in the GOP primary.

While I know he will not always agree with our party just as he didn't always follow the GOP party line, I admire his brilliance and independence and have written to the Pennslyvania Democratic party asking that they strongly consider endorsing him.

The GOP, by targeting the senators who voted their consiceince on the stimulus, is cutting off its nose to spite its face and will soon be nothing more than a small regional party representing 25-30 percent of the voters.
