Not only pro-Joan letters are allowed on this site since yours was posted, but most people on Salon recognize sexism and condescion when they see it.
I cannot imagine a woman responding to a man making a statement she disagrees with by saying she's grateful he could never be her husband so she doesn't have to listen to such prattle.
It was a silly response from a man who had no idea how to refute her viewpoint on an intellectual level.
One unfortunate thing about how weakened the Republican party has become after eight years of George Bush is how few moderates still have a voice in the GOP, leaving blowhards like Limbaugh and Armey as its spokespersons.
Instead of having serious discussions about the economy and what the stimulus bill will or won't do, we're stuck in the politics of gender and race thanks to people like Dick Armey and Rush Limbaugh who focus on attacking anyone who disagrees with them. They would rather see the country fail than see Democrats succeed (Limbaugh has said as much) and then have the gall to question the patriotism of liberals.
Married women who do not work outside the home are the ones most likely to vote Republican, too bad they aren't aware of what low-esteem representatives of their party such as Dick Armey hold them in
Men like Dick Armey and Mike Gallagher come from a world in which women found it difficult to achieve power on their own and too often looked to powerful men to take care of them. They are threatened by smart women and don't know how to handle any woman who refuses to take a subservient role and isn't happy to merely serve as a trophy wife to old toads like them
I had no idea about Daschle's divorce and remarriage, men like him blathering on about the sanctity of marriage while promoting homophobia by opposing equal rights for gay Americans are incredible hypocrites.
I belong to what you refer to as a "social networking site for dogs."
Through that site, I have gotten to know wonderful people around the world from Australia to Europe to Iran and the Far East. Our shared love of dogs has led us to relationships far deeper than any I have found elsewhere on the Internet.
Nobody cares about your social status, your age or your income. What they care about is your heart and compassion.
Whenever I need a break from the nastiness, personal attacks and mean-spiritedness that too often pervade "human" sites including Salon, there's no place I would rather go to cleanse my spirit than to the dogs
I think Pelosi makes some interesting points and that there were those in the media who did give Barack Obama a pass throughout the election.
George W. Bush may well go down as one of the worst presidents in our history and Dick Cheney should be investigated for his deceit. The new slogan for the GOP appears to be "just say no," rather than coming up with any alternative plans.
But the uncivilized tone among hardliners on both sides is counterproductive in a time when the country must find a way to unite. I think most people are frankly sick of the uncivil war between Democrats and Republicans. You can disagree with people without demonizing them.
The comments about destroying your oponents when they're down reminds me of what some Obama supporters said about those who backed Clinton during the primary. Fortunately it appears the new president is far less petty.
By continuing to reach out to those on the other side, he breathes new life into his moving speech at the 2004 convention and reminds us that we have to find ways to work together.
What a joy it was after eight years to see Joe Biden instead of Dick Cheney and to hear the articulate and inspiring address from President Obama and fully realize that George W. Bush is finally gone.
Too bad instead of listening to the address, Texas Representatives Jim Barton and John Culberson decided to send text messages on Twitter instead, how disrespectful
Is Bobby Jindall really the best the GOP could do? Or did they think voters would find him more appealing than their horrible leaders such as Richard Shelby, who's dragging out the ridiculous Obama birth certificate discussion, Jim Bunning who's counting the days until Ruth Bader Ginzburg passes away or Eric Cantor, who uses his time to make up parodies mocking working people?
Fortunately it appears most people can see through the Republicans whose campaign slogan for 2010 appears to be "We just said no"
