Original article: Obama's Chicago machine

Fun Fact:

George W. Bush spent his 60th birthday in Chicago at a private dinner hosted for him by Mayor Daley. Birds of a feather...

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 01:14 PM

Why is McCain hitting the panic button when

"the fundamentals of our economy are still strong"?

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 01:17 PM

McCain can still have one of his

toadies pull the fire alarm.

Thursday, September 25, 2008 08:13 AM

@Fladad

"He throws the Obama campaign and its supporters (including much of the MSM and apparently David Letterman) for a loop once again and they're unsure how to react."

A truly laughable claim. Obama didn't blink and is going straight ahead as planned. The media, even your beloved Fox, is treating it as a cheap political ploy. Even cheaper because Letterman caught him in a lie.

McCain's problem is that he has been convinced by his toadies that he can show the same contempt for the MSM and American public that Bush does. But McCain does not have the weight of 9/11 to manipulate and he is finding out the hard way.

Original article: Obama and McCain face off

Watched the debate on CNN

with the instant reaction "meter" tracking Reps, Dems and Inds in the audience. Both candidates tanked with Independents (presumeably swing voters) when they went on the attack against each other. McCain tanked deepest when he refused to distinguish Obama's nuance between precondition and preparation with regards to meeting Iran's leadership. The audience seemed to really resent the dishonesty of his argument. His outburst about denying the Holocaust was negatively received as well. Overall, the reation of Independents was more positive for Obama.

While I admit this technique is not scientific, it lends me to believe that the undecided voters (the only ones who count at this point) want to hear facts and reasoned arguments, not attacks.

One point Obama should have followed up on

is that the Iraqi government is insisting on a withdrawl date for "coalition" forces as well.

Every time I see McCain being sarcastic and disdainful,

I'm reminded of Donald Rumsfeld.

Original article: The Word from Wasilla

Less than 2 months from now Sarah Palin

will be nothing more than an answer to a trivia question.

Monday, October 6, 2008 09:48 AM

@Clockwork Smurf

I think Palin is using the term "terrorist" because the Weather Underground was listed as an internal terror organization by the FBI. Though we should note that all charges against Ayers were dropped.

Also, I don't know what the Weather Underground or Ayers have to do with the Dow falling over 6% this morning...

That's the most coherent thing you've ever written. Good boy! Here's a treat!

John McCain and Bill Ayers have this in common:

neither was ever tried or convicted of any crime.

Tuesday, October 7, 2008 09:05 AM

What amazed and frightened me

about Fox "News'" spin on McCain is that they were universally lauding his "brinksmanship". A most bizzare way to put a positive spin on McCain's impulsive, irratic behavior.

I dont' know about accents

but you can't get too much more folksy than being protected from witchcraft. Unless, of course, she starts burning witches. Now *that's* Old School.

Tuesday, October 7, 2008 01:59 PM

So McCain left the group not

because its ties to right-wing death squads, but because he did not have the time to participate. He palled around a general who was dismissed for insubordination to the United States Commander-In-Chief. Country first, yeah right.

Tuesday, October 7, 2008 02:22 PM

@FLADAD

"Ayers, however, didn't just talk. He bombed. And bombed."

You are truly full of shit. The Government dropped all charges against him. He's never been tried or convicted of anything.

Wednesday, October 8, 2008 09:17 AM

McChurian Candidate

It's worth noting that it only took a few days of "enhanced interrogation" to get McCain to cooperate with the North Vietnamese and accuse the US of war crimes. Many other brave American POW's withstood their interrogations without betraying their country.

It's only going to get worse.

11/4 can't come too soon for me.

What is erroneous about the

belief that Ozarkers are ignorant country bumpkins? If they would put the same effort into indoor plumbing that they put into their meth labs they might someday disprove that belief.

"That kind of neutralizes McCain using that "charge"."

Not in the Bizzaro World that the Republicans inhabit.

The abuse of power charge

will only make her more popular with her base. Abuse of power is the Republican mascot.

@bearpaw

Law enforcement has made a science of identifying and neutralizing leaders and troublemakers in crowds. I don't see how this is any different.

Wednesday, October 15, 2008 07:17 AM

@goathead

Well, McCain's most recent "surprise" is that the head of his transition team worked closely with 2 criminals who lobbied for Saddam Hussein's interests and were involved in the food-for-oil scandal of the mid-'90's. Can't see how that will help him

Maybe if he can get that soldier's puppy back from Iraq and pull it out during the debate. Everyone loves puppies.

I have yet to meet an Obama supporter

who acts like this election is "in the bag." Early voting here in Chicago is proceeding at a record pace. Folks are pissed; too pissed to sit at home on election day.

Thursday, October 16, 2008 02:52 PM

I hope the MSM gets ahold of this

and makes her name a household word.

In other news, the Klan in Ada, OK is coming out from under their rock.

From the Chicago Sun Times:

Sheila Raines of San Bernardino, a black member of the club, complained about the image to Fedele.

‘‘This is what keeps African-Americans from joining the Republican Party,’’ she said. ‘‘I’m really hurt. I cried for 45 minutes.’’

Friday, October 17, 2008 09:32 AM

McCain's base is his own worst enemy

Look what they've given him:

Sarah Palin

Reliance on personal attack strategy

Inability to repudiate Bush

Inflexible neocon dogma

And in the desperate closing days of his campaign the real trash jump into the spotlight with this sort of behavior and racist cartoons in newsletters with "Republican" in the title. I'm sure there are plenty more examples.

What's worse for him is that, should he lose, his base will put the blame squarely on his shoulders. It's this type of dynamic that could ultimately lead to a split in the Republican party with the greedy moral relativists going one way and the greedy evangelicals going 'tother.

I can't feel sorry for the guy because he sold his soul to a regime based on lies and abuse of power. Still, it sure is an interesting time in history.
