I wish it were unbelievable

Unfortunately, this is only too believable. Good job holding ABC accountable, and demonstrating the links and fabrications that led to war. Will ABC accept responsibility for their actions? We'll find out how strong a hold the current administration has on ABC when we see how they respond (or don't) to your reporting.

@ freaking shooter

Shooter,

Are you really OK with a major news outlet printing false and misleading information, then pretending they didn't? You call this drive-by media. I call it a demand for accountability. They say we should trust them, then they immediately demonstrate that they are not trustworthy, while at the same time disseminating unsubstantiated information which could help drive us into another military adventure in a critical and unstable part of the world. What the heck are you thinking? The stakes are too high to mess around with partisan politics. We need honesty, transparency, and diligence. I believe you really think you're right, and you hate thinking that the other side might have a point. But even you should see this one. This is more important than right wing vs. left wing. This is about the survival of the republic.

write your congressman!

Here's mine:

Congressman Buchanan,

I'm a registered Republican, and I voted against you in the last election. I did that, because I believed that you supported the policies of the current President of the United States. I'm writing to you today to ask you to work to restore the writ of Habeas Corpus. That this fundamental right was withdrawn redefines our government as an autocracy, not the Republic that I love. We are less secure without this defining right. Your efforts to redeem our party and protect our constitution by returning this right to the people will win you my vote and voice here in Bradenton.

Thank you,

Paul Stone

@prunes

You said:

"If the Saudi terrorists were pissed about deforestation in Alaska, would we be justified in bombing Eskimos?"

Beautiful. Thank you. Best illumination of bad logic e v e r.

@ Jim Montague

Thanks for the C.V. of the current occupant of the White House on page 13 of the comments. I'll fact check that son and use it to shorten conversations with republican colleagues.

It is buried in the share button, but it doesn't work. I always look for Joe Klein's conscience so I can digg your stuff.

@grumpus

So stop reading if you don't like it. It's a nice story, well told.

sorry if this is a repeat. Glenn, the digg link after your articles doesn't take me to the right digg page. If you can get your tech weenies to fix the dang button, you'll get more diggs. {back to lurking...}

please digg this story

here:

http://digg.com/political_opinion/John_Yoo_Spearhead_or_scapegoat

My local newspaper has school board budget cuts as a banner headline on page 1 (I'm a teacher!), followed by middle school kids robbing a pizza delivery man and concerns about Christian license plates. Discussion of Bushco's advocacy of torture is on page 9. This is nuts.

I have to explain to my daughters that our country tortures people as an instrument of official government policy? We've become the enemy.

writing a letter to the editor now...

"We have met the enemy and they are us" - Pogo

If we don't demand and insist on and ensure and continually monitor principled leadership, we're responsible for this evil. Thanks Glenn for your research and for laying this out so clearly.

Digg this column, please

This column needs to be read outside of Glenn's normal readership. Please push the share button at the bottom of the column, select digg, and digg it. Lots of diggs gets the column exposure throughout the media.

These media practices can only exist if enough people ignore them.

RRHeard many many pages ago...

"I for one would rather have my tax dollars go to my neighbor who uses his brain and his hands to make something tangible than some fuckwad douchenozzle financial titan living in his "profit by theft" gated mansion in the Hamptons thinking about where he, Biff, Skippy, Muffie and Babs were going to sail to and brunch at in the morning."

Great sentence. Thank you.
