E, I'm speaking of the same movie as you are.
[Read the article: Beyond the Multiplex]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Xanthro; what movie called Columbine are you talking about?
Because the scene in question in "Bowling For Columbine" is the actual interview of Charlton Heston."
-----------------------
No, it's parts of the interview, edited in a fashion to show what Moore wants.
========================
"The interview is going along friendly until Heston starts blaming the "race element" for why there is so much gun violence in America."
-------------------------
Do you not understand that most Gun violence in the United States is commited by and against minority or ethnic groups? The chance of a white person in the United States being murdered with a firearm are about the same as someone in England being murdered by a firearm.
The chances of a black person being murdered with a firearm in the US is almost 50 times greater.
Pigmentation has nothing to do with violence, but police enforcement does, and the simple fact is minority on minority violence does not draw the police response that crime within and against the white community does.
Heston goes on to explain this to Moore, but Moore leaves that part out, trying to make it sounds as if being black causes someone to commit a crime.
===========================
"Then Moore changes the subject and asks Heston why the NRA held a big pro-gun rally in Flynt MI right after a little boy had just shot a little girl at PRE-school. Heston denied he knew about it, then Moore follows up with, "Well then do you think you should apologize?" Heston Arrogantly replies "You want me to APOLOGIZE to the people of Flynt?" Then Moore reminds him that he did the same thing in Colombine right after the shooting there, and asks why does the NRA hold pro-gun rallies right after these kind of tragedies occur. Then Heston walks out."
----------------------------
In Colorado, the meeting had been scheduled for years in advance, and New York State laws require an annual General Meeting, if the meeting location is going to change, then at least ten days notice must be given. The Colombine shooting happen 11 days prior to the meeting, so there is no chance to change the location, and without the meeting, the NRA would have been in violation of New York laws where it is incorporated.
The NRA canceled all the events planned except for that which was required by law.
============================
"What was unfair about it? What was dishonest about it? How is that sandbagging?"
----------------------------
Because Moore was aware of the legal issue and was aware that the events not required by law were canceled.
============================
Michael Moore is a filmmaker FIRST. He's not a lawyer or a politician. He's a guy with a camera and something to say, and backs up what he says with information. He published a book to Farenheit showing every single piece of source material for EVERY LINE in the movie! and yet, people act like he's some kind of authority figure. HE MAKES MOVIES!
-----------------------------
Sure, he's a filmaker first, but he's NOT a Documentary maker. His films are a reflection of his politcal agenda. I have nothing against that and his filming is usually pretty good, but they are not documentaries.
As to source of every line, yes, but they are taken way out of context. When I splice parts of a speech together and change the meaning of that speech, I'm being dishonest. Dishonestly representing something as fact is unfortunately acceptable in the political arena, but it should not be acceptable in order to receive awards for a documentary.
My issue with Moore isn't his politics, though I view him as the left wing version of Coulter, it's that by classifing his work as a documentary hurts people who actually produce real documentaries.
