  • Inclusive doesn't mean don't fight

    chasa,

Our nation is on a dangerous course, and the first opportunity to steer toward safer waters is the upcoming Senate and House elections.

The goal cannot be individual candidates, the goal has to be taking either the Senate or the House, anything else is a failure and equals two more years of unchecked dangers from the Bush administration.

Arguing over Lieberman v. Lamont is a distraction. There is no possibility that the Republican candidate would beat Lieberman.

There is no net gain of seats there, and Lamont's victory wouldn't help with future races either, in fact it would hurt races in Red states.

Races such as Allen and Web are what we should be arguing about.

Web as you know is a former Republican and is farther to the right than most Democrats want, but as long as he beats Allen welcome to the party. Why, because it means our agenda moves forward, even if Web opposes parts or even all of that agenda.

"I can't fault your logic, really, other than to point out that the current party in power enforces a breathtaking ideological purity (except when it gets in the way of throwing handouts to their rich friends), and they've been doing just great, thanks."

While you may think the Republicans enforce a breathtaking ideological purity, the fact is they do not. That's the whole Reagan 11th commandment, "thou shall not criticize another Republican."

What seems to you like ideological purity is the result of controlling the Senate and House. Fairly ideologically pure bills get passed despite the fact that many elected Republicans are not ideologically pure.

That’s what I want to see Democrats obtain, the ability to pass our bills!!

Currently, the Republicans are attacking themselves in a battle for the soul of their party. Hence the term RINO. They are attacking the very concept that allowed to rule for the past decade. Let’s not squander our opportunity to advance our agenda by adopting their self defeating tactics.

  • Pocket Battleships?

"The thing that frightens me is the Clintons and Lieberman's strategy as pocket Democrats; they are to me like pocket Battleships, all gun and no platform."

Perhaps you have confuse Pocket Battleships with Battle Cruisers.

Pocket Battleships were German Heavy Crusiers armed with 11 in guns in twin triple turrets designed to get around the treaty limitations.

Battle Crusiers were a design that emphasized firepower and speed over armor.

Still, your anology doesn't make sense in any case, since both were excellent and stable firing platforms.

Obviously, you've never worked for or with the man.

As someone who has done both, he's pretty much an asshole in every sense of the Word.

  • Greens + Left Democrats = 15% of General Population

[Read the article: Why is Bill Clinton in Connecticut?]

People are the far left need to stop with the delusion that somehow they are something more than a small minority.

You are a tiny minority and the simple fact is most of the nation laughs at your politics.

Combined you couldn't win any more elections than the Libertarians.

If you want your policies to have a chance to affect society, you can't attempt to be pure left because you have no chance of winning and no chance of affecting policy.

At least as parts of the Democratic party, you form an important block of primary voters and can affect policy can be affected.

Greens are not even competitive in California, their strongest State and most States look at the Green platform in the same manner they'd look at a Martian platform, they think you are insane.

You can either ghetto yourself into a irrevelent party and watch everything you hold dear be destoryed, or you can accept that it will be a long long time before people come around to your way of thinking, if they ever do, and in the meantime work as best as possible to move you agenda forward. The only way for the latter is to work with the Democratic party.

  • Republican logic

[Read the article: Coulter: Bill Clinton is a "latent" homosexual]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Lot's of heterosexual sex = Bathhouse sex

    Bathhouse sex = Homosexual Sex

Hence, lot's of heterosexual sex = homosexual sex.

    This explains many things.

We now know why Ann Coulter is unmarried, because if she has sex with men she’s a homosexual and if she has sex with women she’s a homosexual.

Plus, we know why the Republican party is so anti-Gay, because according to their criterion everyone is Gay, they most feel under siege with all the straight (but actually gay) sex that goes on.

Also, the Republican position on birth control now makes sense. Because they think that all sex outside of what is required to produce children is gay sex, so they oppose birth control because birth control means more sex and more sex equals more gays.

    It’s all clear now.
