On any given day that would be the case, because it was rare at that time that military aircraft were kept on airborne alert. The only reason any planes were armed an in flight was because of the military excercise.
There was no luck involved, pick any day years before 9/11 and you'd have the same amount of air cover. In fact, most days there would be no armed planes flying at all.
Fighters were scrambled from the ground and were on route to New York, but since the end of the Cold War the number of such bases has been reduced and the number kept on alert reduced even more.
The simple fact is there is nothing odd about not having fighters near the area.
What people are doing is making you believe this is odd in order to try and reinforce their case.
Go back and read what they wrote, but this time keep in mind that planes shouldn't be expected. Now, see where they present proof that planes should be there. They don't, instead they say, look planes were far away what a cooincidence, when in fact those planes have nothing to do with defense of the United States. We have far more planes that were in the excercise, but they were not airborne providing cover on 9/11 or any other day that year or the years previous since the early 1990s.

Because they were in danger. The Bin Laden family is huge and its members range from Islamic crazys like Osama to American citizens who are no different that you or I.
It was apparent rather immediately that the likely suspect was Osama, which means that anyone with his name would be at risk, so they were flown out of the country.
Now, I think the method it which is was done was clouded in secrecy in a manner that invites suspicion, and that some of them should have been questioned, but there were legitimate reasons for them to be flown out.

Gold in WTC

There was over $200 million in gold in a vault at the WTC in a bank.
There wasn't $130 billion in gold which is about half the Gold in the World.
People take the fact that there was gold at the bank, and exaggerate that to amounts that are not even physically possible and turn it into gold buried beneath the towers.

Of course I could find none that collapsed because of fire, because the only three that ever did were the WT 1, 2 & 7 (7 not being hit by a plane or build with the same materials, structure and date as 1 & 2).
Now I challenge you to find one other building other than the WTC ones that fell like the WTC ones. Don't cheat - no demolitions allowed...

As to buildings of the same type that collapsed in the same manner.

L'Ambiance Plaza 1987
Harbour Cay Condominium, Cocoa Beach, Fla., 1981.
Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, 1970
Los Angeles, 1985.
While such failures are a rare, they are not unheard of, and the buildings when the fail, regardless of reason, do so in the same manner as witnessed at WTC.

No different than you or I? You think so? I don't see how we could be MORE different.
What is your overall point in defending everything the government did surrouonding 9/11?
Do you have any questions? Or was everything neatly sewn up for you?

How exactly is someone who is born, raised, who went to school in the United States somehow so very different than you and I because their last name is Binladen?
Really, that's like saying all Smiths are the same.
The Binladen family as I wrote is huge with thousands of members some are crazy and some are Americans. You may want to blame people for the color of their skin or their family name, but most people find that reprehensible.

I don't see any that didn't fall in their own foot print from your link. The closest is the Mexico building that partially fell over in it's own foot print.
While not every building in your link totally collapsed, their failures for the most part were inside their own footprint, and this is from Earthquake damage where there are significant lateral forces.
What your link shows is that even with substaintial lateral forces in affect, concrete and steel buildings still tend to fall in their own footprint, even if not built to US standards.
