I am screaming!!!!
[Read the article: A nation of Rich Lowrys]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I worked in Iraq for 3 years as a KBR truck driver. Going on hundreds of convoys, I guarantee I spent more time 'outside the wire' than 95% of the soldiers. Remember, the vast majority of them are just support troops in the GIGANTIC CITY/BASES all over Iraq and in Kuwait. One thing I have never understood is how people assume there is some 'special knowledge' gained by physically visiting the place. WTF?!! The US doesn't trust the Iraqis so at least in my situation there was zero interaction. If an Iraqi gets near a convoy, they blow him/her away. The only thing I learned is the totally unbelievable amount of wasted money. I lived a higher lifestyle over in Iraq than as a truck driver in the US because no expense in barred on these bases. We had huge gyms with state of the art equipment, cafeterias with steak & lobster and 12 types of desserts, massage parlors, 24/7 AC, big screen tvs, barber shops, free laundry, and on and on and on. Goddamn, Rich Lowry can kiss my ass if he thinks he knows what's going on. For some reason we have elevated the military into Gods and they are spending money like no tomorrow (on one base they built a golf driving range). We are five years into this damn thing and the US public still doesn't know how it is being milked for the biggest rip-off of history.

FreeRepublic is already crucifying Neal
[Read the article: Pam Spaulding for Glenn Greenwald: Out gay man challenges Elizabeth Dole]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Check out the pure hatred from the Republicans already ( http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1914566/posts?page=1 ):
"Larry Craig’s endorsement is not far off................"
"Sounds like he’s been forked enough...She just needs to run him over..."
"Jim Neal. Gay Candidate for Senate. Sometimes the jokes write themselves..."
"Jim Kneel........HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA"
"Can we just come up with a lapel pin or something for gay people so we can quit talking about it. I am sick to death of the constant droning on about who’s gay, why are they gay. they’re sad because they’re gay and on and on ad nauseum. I’m paraphrasing of course, but can’t “the love that dare not speak its name” just SHUT UP?"
"How nith for him. Justh spethal."
"He could lift all kinds of lines/scenes from Brokeback Mountain for his campaign propaganda."
"Neal’s gonna have to really pack the poles (sic) to get elected."

Brad DeFlumeri, President, UMASS Republicans
[Read the article: Various items]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Interesting article about this guy - a real winner:
EXCERPTS:
""In all honesty I didn't have a good experience in the Navy," said DeFlumeri."
"This is where he ran into some serious problems, "On my shift during my deployment the people I worked with started getting investigated for basically stealing money from the Navy."
Since the jobs they performed gave them access to many parts and objects that were vital to the ship, several men, including DeFlumeri, were accused of stealing parts and selling them.
While under suspicion, DeFlumeri and the others accused were not permitted to leave the ship under any circumstances, even when in port. The worst part for DeFlumeri was waiting approximately three months to go before his commanding officer to hear whether he was going to receive a dishonorable discharge and be sent to military prison.

You're surprised they're still attacking Hillary?
[Read the article: The worst, sleaziest press corps possible]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This doesn't surprise me at all. Look around. So-called progressive blogs like Americablog read like FreeRepublic nowadays. The personal vitriol and despicably gutteral attacks against Hillary all in the name of supporting Obama have gotten insane. In fact on some of these 'liberal' blogs, the epithets against Hillary are even worse than the Republicans used during the 90's.

Re: threatened tribalism
[Read the article: One of Instapundit's favorite blogs speaks on race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Anyone who has been to Iraq can describe the exact same phenomenon. I was there as a civilian truck driver. The very first day I arrived at camp Anaconda, I was totally blown away. From the top supervisor of the camp down to my direct manager, they all spoke of "haji" this and "haji" that. It is very insulated over there so they don't realize how crazy it's gotten. But to an outsider, it is stunning.
For the whole time I was there, the vast majority of all the contrators and the troops referred to any and all Iraqis as "hajiis" - and yes it was always in a belittling and derogatory fashion. But it's even more absurd than that. Most people don't realize that the giant mega military bases (actually like cities) are run on a bizarre caste system. The actual labor is done by Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans, Indians, and others known as TCNs (third-country nationals). Anyways, they are all called 'hajiis' too. Without getting into a long explanation - yes 'haji' has a legitimate connotation relating to Muslims (which is not the manner in which it was used). But the fact that many of these foreign subcontractors were also called 'hajis', even though they are Hindi or Buddhist or whatever, shows the absurd nature of it all.
