Pay gap is bunk
[Read the article: Attack of the female millionaires]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]From http://www.reason.com/news/show/119920.html
"On its face, the evidence in the AAUW study looks damning. "One year out of college," it says, "women working full-time earn only 80 percent as much as their male colleagues earn. Ten years after graduation, women fall farther behind, earning only 69 percent as much as men earn."
But read more, and you learn things that don't get much notice on Equal Pay Day. As the report acknowledges, women with college degrees tend to go into fields like education, psychology and the humanities, which typically pay less than the sectors preferred by men, such as engineering, math and business. They are also more likely than men to work for nonprofit groups and local governments, which do not offer salaries that Alex Rodriguez would envy.
As they get older, many women elect to work less so they can spend time with their children. A decade after graduation, 39 percent of women are out of the work force or working part time -- compared with only 3 percent of men. When these mothers return to full-time jobs, they naturally earn less than they would have if they had never left.
Even before they have kids, men and women often do different things that may affect earnings. A year out of college, notes AAUW, women in full-time jobs work an average of 42 hours a week, compared to 45 for men. Men are also far more likely to work more than 50 hours a week."

Thanks
[Read the article: Women to blame for global warming?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks, Tracy. This is critical feminist news.

Definitely critical
[Read the article: "Stripperific" Britney's back]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks for this critical feminist update on the Britney Spears issue, Tracy.
Keep us informed of any further developments in this key story, central to the feminist struggle.

Dr. Addison is only half correct
[Read the article: How to become the perfect, "surrendered" wife]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Dr. Gottman does not emphasize two way "acceptance of influence".
From his website:
http://www.gottman.com/marriage/self_help/
Accept influence. A marriage succeeds to the extent that the husband can accept influence from his wife. If a woman says, "Do you have to work Thursday night? My mother is coming that weekend, and I need your help getting ready," and her husband replies, "My plans are set, and I'm not changing them". This guy is in a shaky marriage. A husband's ability to be influenced by his wife (rather than vice-versa) is crucial because research shows women are already well practiced at accepting influence from men, and a true partnership only occurs when a husband can do so as well.
Notwithstanding Gottman's wholly unsubstantiated comment, I have yet to see a marriage in America where aa American wife is "well practiced at accepting influence from men".

No upside
[Read the article: Parents speak to the upside of Down syndrome]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Most children with Down's syndrome will die a lingering death from premature Alzheimer's disease, which will present in ther 40s or 50s. They will not be children forever, and to extrapolate their quality of life from the time they are children is to ignore the sad reality of what issues they face in adulthood.

How horrible
[Read the article: From tennis pro to working at home]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Women making conscious choices to live their lives as they see fit.
How horrible.
Perhaps they are so oppressed by The Patriarchy that they no longer are of sound mind.
Clearly a feminist nightmare, Ms. Clark-Flory. Should we force these women back to the tennis courts? That would be the right feminist thing to do.

Chillun, not "chitlins"
[Read the article: Blame it on the "baby blues"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think she wants to write "chillun", but by now, mistaking children for pig intestines has become a signature trait of her writing, so we'll have to live with it. Sort of like the New Yorker dieresis, but less distinguished.

"Western legal ideals??"
[Read the article: Defending women from "dowry death"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Right now a woman can get a restraining order against a man based on hearsay testimony ex parte about her "feelings" of being threatened. With such an order, she can bar him from his home, take his children away from him and shut him out of a jointly held bank account.
Where domestic violence accusations against men are concerned, there is no presumption of innocence in the US.

Pyrian's Divorce From Reality
[Read the article: Defending women from "dowry death"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There is no evidentiary due process involved in obtaining a restraining order. Restraining orders are also obtainable in ex parte hearings where only the petitioner is present.
David Letterman had a restraining order filed against him by a woman in New Mexico who said he was influencing her over the airways and controlling her mind. That is how absurd and removed from constitutionality the process has become in the US.
You can read about it here, Pyrian:

Volvo Driving Soccer Mom
[Read the article: College girls gone wild (and proud of it)]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]....
I really used to be a bad girl
I got gang-banged in the bathroom at my high school prom
Yes, I used to be a real wild child
But now I am a Volvo-driving soccer mom
Na-na na-na na-na na-na na-na na-na
Where do all the porn stars go
When the lights go down?
I wonder where all the porn stars go
'Cause when you need one, they are never around
I think they moved out to the suburbs
And now they're blonde, bland, middle-class Republican wives
They all have blonde, bland, middle-class Republican children
Blonde, bland, middle-class Republican lives
Where do all the porn stars go
When the lights go down?
I think I know where all the porn stars go
They all become Volvo-driving soccer moms
