Substitute teacher must register as sex offender

By RYAN MYERS, The Enterprise

05/29/2008

Updated 05/28/2008 11:52:44 PM CDT

A former substitute teacher who pleaded guilty to molesting a Nederland High School freshman will have to register as a sex offender and will be barred from teaching in public schools.

The 47-year-old woman, Kerry Smith Foulk of Port Neches, pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony charges of indecency with a child for engaging in sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl in September 2006.

Foulk's plea agreement with prosecutors calls for her to complete 10 years' deferred adjudication probation and to pay restitution for counseling attended by the student and her parent.

Indecency with a child is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

The plea agreement is subject to approval by state 252nd District Court Judge Layne Walker, who is scheduled to sentence Foulk next month.

A phone call Wednesday to Foulk's listed number was not returned. Attempts to reach her attorney Wednesday also were unsuccessful.

The abuse, which occurred at Foulk's home, was not an isolated incident, Jefferson County prosecutor Pat Knauth said.

"After this student made an outcry, others came forward," Knauth said in a phone conversation Wednesday, explaining Foulk's activity with other girls did not rise to criminal levels.

The substitute teacher had a history of befriending girls in classes she taught, the prosecutor said, allowing girls to stay nights at her house.

"She would provide alcohol to them, talk about sex with them, try to get them drunk," Knauth said. "It was obvious, at least to me, that she was grooming these other girls but that the other girls stepped out of the situation before something could happen."

The girl Foulk pleaded guilty to abusing had not been a student in any of her classes.

The student and substitute teacher lived in the same area, Knauth said, and Foulk befriended the student and her older sister.

The Enterprise generally does not identify sexual assault victims.

Get real

First of all, it's a fake commercial.

Second of all, were it a real commercial, it would still be a lot better than women seeking "starter husbands" for "starter marriages" - something that seems to be dismissed blithely by the feminist chattering classes.

Wow

A website article written about a blog that was featured in a magazine in a Sunday paper.

America is both fantastic and pathetic at the same time.

Original article: Al-Qaida's female warrior

When?

When will the oppression of female suicide-bombers-to-be end?

Maybe we can get a government grant to study the problem, and for m a "women's group" to post blog entries about it.

This mindset, exemplified by TCF's pseudoarticle, is why the liberal Western secular model for society is already circling the drain.

On the one hand....

perfectly legal.

On the other, ethically unsound and completely contrary to US interests.

But during this administration, a member of National Lead's lobbying group became Secretary of the Interior. Energy company lobbyists basically were invited to draft legislation.

Ultimately, every endeavor depends on the professionalism of its people to set a standard. The standard of professionalism for the Bush administration is extremely low, and getting lower by the minute.

America deserves better leadership.

Critical feminist reporting

Thanks, Judy. This is an important crisis, a milestone in the patriarchal victimization of women that epitomizes women's struggles worldwide.

How many people died in Iraq this year? Never mind!

Sexism is only ok

if you're bashing men and boys. Then it's "fighting the patriarchy".

When women and girls are denigrated, it's discrimination.

And, never mind the assassination references, the Curious George t-shirts, etc. Not as nasty as asking Hillary to iron a shirt, no way.

@ihop

The law in CA mandates a 50/50 split of community property after a marriage of ANY duration. However, in a "marriage of long duration" in CA (defined as a marriage of 10 years or more), the lesser-earning spouse may qualify for lifetime alimony.

It's a golddigger's paradise.

Yawn

More 70s feminist crapola - "women = victims", "men = perpetrators".

And Germaine Greer. That clapped out, geriatric pedophile should have recused herself from society long ago.

Leave it to RT to shill for her. Keep singing the feminist Kumbaya chorus, hairy victim-feminists. The women's studies echo chamber needs some noise.
