Authors recommend great summer reading

Neil Gaiman, Jonathan Lethem and others suggest classics, thrillers and big fat books to take to the beach.

A better analyis

RE Breathed and Goldhagen's "Hitler's Willing Executioners:* The book to read on the Reserve battalions who killed Jews in Poland is *Ordinary Men* by Christoper R. Browning. A much better and more original book than the one by Goldhagen.

Transcripts?

Could you please post transcripts of these videos? If I want talking heads, I can turn on the TV.

I second

It takes too long to listen to people say what I can read in seconds, click on my library webpage and order. Plus, I don't need to write anything down--I can just copy and paste.

I read rather than watch because I can get more in depth information in much less time. Unless the picture is integral to understanding the topic, I want to read the information.

Okeydokey?

Most definitely

Videos are pointless to me. I can't watch them at work, can't watch them on my cell phone when I'm waiting someplace, and I can't even turn short clips like this on while I prep for dinner without constant intervention (and, like the previous commenter, I don't want to have to write down the interesting bits). Of course, there's also the absurdity of only having videos when the subject is summer reading.

ditto

Another vote in favor of text over video, please.

Wow

How cute is Jonathan Lethem?

Mothers of The Believers: My Favorite Book So Far This Summer

"Mother of the Believers: A Novel of the Birth of Islam" by Kamran Pasha is an epic wonder! This book gave me more relevant insight into the soul of Islam than any history or political lessons could ever have. It is superbly written. This dramatic story of Muhammad's favored wife is one that you will truly love. I did not want this novel to end. I can't wait to re-read it again before the summer is out.

videos are useless; picture are good

please don't use video when you can write an article. posting the author's picture next to their recommendation would be nice, but not necessary.

who has the inclination to watch a video when you can READ (and isn't that what the authors are recommending?)

videos

I'm not quite as opposed to these videos as some of the other posters (I think it can be nice to actually hear an author speak- gives me a sense of their character in a way that text can't), but I do agree that the book suggestions should be printed as well.

If I wanted to watch video on these authors, I'd use google or go directly to CNN or youtube.
