Seriously though, a very informative review for an evidently very informative book... thanks Douglas. Makes me miss my complimentary subscription to COMICS JOURNAL which expired three years ago!

wonderful

Indeed the first book I still refferance to this day. McCloud is a god send to all of us who fancy ourselves artists/storytellers. The comic industry is still in an identity crisis, but currently some of the best storytellers are working in comics now, with adult content and highly intelligent stories, characters and plot lines. Frank Miller, Warren Ellis, Alan Moore..etc etc. Unfortunatly alot of decent comics are being destroyed by hollywood, they seem to want the "flash" provided by comics but not the substance of the storys. Be on the look out for Frank Miller's "300" so far the visuals in that trailers I have seen represent the nuanced, stylized feeling that Frank brings to his visuals to tell the story and immerse you in a not so unfamiliar world.

Tough love for "Reinventing..."

I would caution Doug Wolk to reconsider "Reinventing Comics" -- I have fond memories of reading "Understanding Comics" and reinventing" back to back, and one was a nice complement to the other. And of course, it would be felonious to allow this subject to come up and not mention Will Eisner's groundbreaking "Comic and Sequential Art," a master class, as it were.
