The thoughtful new book "Straight to Jesus" reveals the torment suffered by gay Christians who entered a residential program to battle their sexual desires.
  • Fooling yourselves

I see that Oxymoron beat me to it, but since I NEVER get tired of saying it:

There is no God, no soul, no afterlife. And I mean YOUR god, YOUR soul, and YOUR afterlife. As depressing as that concept is for some people, the ideas of gods souls and afterlives are equally ridiculous. Have any of you people even bothered to think what an eternity of 'paradise' would be like? Or an eternity of torment?

Religion is a parasite that feeds off and weakens healthy societies, it is a way for a small group to use fear and ignorance to control a larger group. There is also usually a lot of banging of 14 year olds.

The numbers re: homosexuality are just too rich of a plumb for religion not to pick. What better way to stir up the faithful than by rooting out the sinners in their midst? With luck you've already got the faithful to hate and fear their own sexuality and so any scapegoat that seems even more depraved than they view themselves is going to be an easy target. And, what with the gays being only about 10% of a population you're almost always gonna win- and that will save you from having to resort to the whole 'we would have won if you people had had more FAITH' thing.

I feel great pity for the 'recovering' homosexuals, what with them squandering their precious time actually denying what makes them happy. Yeah, yeah, we make child molesters deny what makes them happy, too. ...well, all of us but the Catholic church, but I think you get my point.

Get a life, not an afterlife.
