"Whiteman"

This seductive debut from a former Peace Corps worker transcends the "earnest young man" novel and announces the arrival of a master storyteller.

Just read Whiteman - It's amazing.

I read this book almost in one sitting as it was just too good to put down. Along with the vivid storytelling and exotic setting, I really enjoyed the writer's craftsmanship. Each sentence is funny, tragic, haunting - or a combination of all three, and each sentence moves the story forward with efficiency.

It's been two weeks since I finished Whiteman and I'm still thinking about The Ivory Coast and the spellbinding way it was portrayed in this novel.

Peace Corps

just a factoid - the Peace Corps is not an NGO, but a US Government agency!

What does Laura Miller know about the love lives of 20-something guys, anyway?

"Adama's love life, it must be said, is much like that of the average American male in his 20s: flailing, contradictory and unconsidered"

Really? Is that line supposed to evince "cool, lit chick, snark" or what exactly?
