Lovely book

"The Night Watch" certainly is a switch from "The Fingersmith": It's not jaw-dropping (OK, maybe you expected that arrival at the insane asylum, but I was astonished), and it's sad. No sweet, quiet resolution here, just a sad inevitability. It's wonderful to read, though. And if the scene of creeping about the bombed-out, blacked-out churches in the East End while waiting for the air raid sirens didn't make my jaw drop, I feel certain that I gaped.
