Talkin' bout my generation

A new book argues that the baby boomers were a "greater generation" than the one that beat the Depression and Hitler. But what did we really do?

    How about the silent generation?

We were the children of the parents from the depression. We were also probably the first children who were raised without fathers at home for long periods while they were in the war and Mothers who were gone working for the war effort. We then went through the transition of Dads coming home that we didn't know, trying to take up the mantle of boss while the "little woman" returned to the kitchen" to be the perfect housewife, often hating every minute of it after tasting freedom during the war.

The silent generation gets no credit for anything. We took up space, had good "values", a strong work ethic and gave our gen-x kids something to push against. The oldest of us also got caught up in the early boomer shenanigans and became a boomer echo in culture and behavior, although we mostly retained our hard working, ethical values. Those of us in our 50's to late 60's have some stories to tell but no one wants to hear them because we are supposed to be boring. Trust me, we could curl your hair!!
