Top billing for Homo Confidential today and The Blogger Who Loathed Me just a few days ago. Why the homo-centric focus of late? These latest articles, in particular, are just so who cares. Some insecure guy who's girlfriend thinks an on-line antagonist has some homosexual motivation followed by "front page" coverage of 1950s Hollywood homosexuality. What IS the editorial point?
A little lifestyle stuff adds some nice fluff to Salon. But, please, let's see some judgement when it comes to what's front, center and in our face.
Thanks,
Rock Huddon died on 2 Oct 1985, not in 1987.
Don't know what Rocky's point is, but this is a pretty interesting essay about two wierdly interesting-sounding new books. Had no idea Hudson was so manufactured.
And I liked, didn't love, the blogger lit piece, but it's this sort of culture coverage I come to Salon for as much (if not more) than the political coverage. The political coverage is great, but there's only so much I can take.
If this is "fluff," bring it on!
Thanks for pointing that out Humbert. We have since corrected the date in the article.
Thought there was some interesting information in Laura Millers article, I found the
tone angry, bitter and self-serving. I doubt very much that as a young girl she sensed
that Rock Hudson was in any way less than aroused by Doris Day. She revises her
childhood with the latest information. Only homoephobics use the word homo to begin
with. Her obviously dislike for Rock Hudson is very transparent, despie the fact that he
was a giant matinee idol and remains so, having left an excellent body of work behind,
includig Giant. Sounds to me like Laura would be happier at Fox than Salon.
I have to say, after reading your viewers letters, that I too, as a young girl could tell that Rock Hudson wasn't "into" his female co-stars, and even asked my mother (a big movie mag reader) if he was or had ever been married, and she said, "He was married once for about 1/2 hr." And that was when I was a kid, so yeah, it was obvious guys!
This may be too pedantic, but the story of the Goldfinger actress being suffocated by gold paint isn't true. Here's a link: http://www.snopes.com/movies/films/goldfing.htm
Take care.
