  • I think it's a great way to argue against religion

to declare religion close-minded, hypocritical, and dangerous by throwing insults, to declare people who believe in God as equal to the 9/11 terrorists without any real proof, and to threaten to drop subscription to one of the great all-time online publications just because it dared to print something on religion.

Methinks many atheists need to get a twinkie and a warm glass of milk and go sit in front of a soothing fireplace. Or something.

The amount of angry letters here are more proof that there is a hell, and it would be trapped in a conversation at a holiday party between Bill O'Reilly and Christopher Hitchens.

  • religioinistas WANT to impose THEIR beliefs on society...

you know, 'cause dog almighty tells them to...

    hee hee hee

    1. 'opens your mind to any crazy idea' ? ? ? um, he got that right: IF you swallow god-talk bullshit, then i guess you'll believe a 'believer' (*snicker* WHO REALLY thinks georgie porgie is *REALLY* 'religious' except for political appearances and pandering to his fundie base ? ? ?) like king georgie who represents the complete OPPOSITE of what most religionistas would aver is a 'good'/godly person...

    2. nearly EVERY atheist/agnostic i know of, readily CONCEDES that nearly all 'faiths' have a kernel of moral guidelines and timeless aphorisms which atheists - as fellow nekkid apes- SHARE...

in essence, he is making the same old wrong and nasty fundie claim that a person can NOT be 'moral' without religion...

    *sigh*

("oh silly atheist, you're going to hell; but have a nice day !" but i guess i shouldn't be annoyed by that, huh, religonistas ? i recall seeing some research recently where 'religious' and 'non-religious' nekkid apes were given identical moral quandries to answer, and there was 100% agreement on the moral 'solutions'...

thus 'proving' it is NOT religion which makes a nekkid ape moral, BUT SIMPLY BEING A NEKKID APE WHICH CAUSES US TO SHARE SIMILAR OR IDENTICAL MORAL/ETHICAL GUIDELINES ! )

    3. how can atheists be criticized for looking at, analyzing, and commenting on the fundies WHEN THEY DOMINATE THE SOCIAL AND POLITICAL DISCOURSE ? ? ? it is NOT like the berrigan brothers branch of xtianity is in ascendency; it is NOT like the non-shouting, non-judgmental, non-crazy religionistas dominate the media/etc... THE FUNDIES are who we see dominate the 'religious scene' in amerika... and we should shutup about that because the mary knoll sisters do good works ? we should shutup about the fundies/etc because unitarians are almost secular humanists too ? we should shutup about fundies/etc trying to emplace THEIR theocracy because 'serious' theologians don't think they are representative of 'their' religion/beliefs ? ? ?

    4. shorter haught : 'people are scared and grasp on to any flimsy reed to avoid confronting their own mortality...' um, is that original ?

    5. 'without god, there is no hope' ? ? ? um, no, WITH god there is no 'hope', ONLY DETERMINISM AT ITS CORE... no free will, no individual choice, ONLY 'god's will'... what's the fucking point ? (dog almighty made me write that, sue him/her/it...)

    6. oh, wait a minute, i wrote too fast before the next squishy soft generalization popped up: he's allowed that atheists *can* have hope... ! ! ! oh happy day, i can hope again ! (but evidently it is a hollow, you know, inferior hope... *snort*)

7.WTF ? what is this weird hangup on 'ultimate purpose' ? ? ? the universe is, we are, what more is needed ? i know you *want* a neat 'explanation', and -in fact- that is the germ of religion: to explain the unexplainable... but i doubht there are a relative handful of nekkid apes who 'understand' electriciy; somehow that doesn't keep religionistas (and atheists) from using electricity... geez, the people who spend their lives obsessing over this pie-in-the-sky bullshit must not have a real job...

    8. hmmm, i could say you are delusional because you make no sense, i could say you're delusional because you believe in things you have no substantive proof to believe, or i could believe you are delusional simply because you are a religionista...

    9. "But the idea that science alone can lead us to truth is questionable. There's no scientific proof for that."

    hee hee hee

    ho ho ho

    ha ha ha

    ak ak ak

don't you just love it when religionistas conveniently pick and choose not only the parts of 'their' religion they want to believe, but now he can damn science with the 'proof' that science hasn't proven it is the only source of truth... i wasn't aware 'science' was attempting to do that...

(i think it is mostly squishy-soft religionistas who claim that ...)

    10. "So if you're a person of faith who wants to be intellectually responsible, you can't just shove all this science into a drawer. You do have to deal with it.

    Exactly."

    oh sweet geebus...

    A. that is EXACTLY what fundies/etc ARE doing (when they aren't perverting science to 'prove' their religion)...

    B. religionistas DON'T 'deal with science', they minimize it, ignore it, pervert it, deride it, and -ultimately, after dismissing it as any path towards *spiritual* enlightenment, they USE IT to 'prove' their fantasies...

    11. ? ? ? o-k-a-y, so evolution is a 'good thing' because it forces religionistas to 'think' about their catechism... it would seem to me that regardless of evolution, that people should closely examine their 'faith'... how 'bout this construct: there being no god is a 'good thing', because it forces religionistas to 'think' about their religion to make new shit up to cover up that there is no god...

    12. let me ask haught this: IF we annointed, heavenly nekkid apes snuff out this planet, is THAT god's will ? ...or merely the idiocy of stupid nekkid apes who preferred their comfy faith over harsh reality ? ? ?

(i am betting that 90%+ of the screaming treehuggers, environmental activists, and other -you know- loudmouthed assholes who have been RIGHT about their views of how this planet is becoming broken, are probably atheists/agnostics or wiccans...)

it is the RELIGIONISTAS (and greedy power elites) who use the planet like a kleenex; is is the RELIGIONISTAS who view planetwide destruction as a 'good thing', a harbinger of the apocolypse, etc... it is the RELIGIONISTAS who justify their rapacious actions with bible verses...

    13. oh shit, there it is: now he's redefined 'religion' such that it has no relation to 'real religion' on the ground, but some broad 'definition' that covers anyone who ever expressed wonder seeing a rainbow...

no need to read anymore, he's one of the 'redefiners': if a xtian does evil, then they aren't a xtian when they do that; if an atheist does good (you know, a random mistake), then that atheist is a religionist in that action...

i don't need to read any further, the guy is total meaningless mush...
