  • Drudge is going after Edwards

Look at that site...almost every day he smears Edwards. Why? Hmmm.

No way Kerry was going to win in 04, even if he ran against Bob or Liz Dole!

Dems gravitate towards candidates that just don't reach out to enough 'normal' people.

You go with Edwards and Obama with a centrist message: you win.

Or Gore, but with a non-traitorous VP candidate this time (anybody but Lieberman).

Hilary and Bill better be all that the Right wing thinks they are in 08. Or she's going to be Romney'd (oh, he's so nice compared to that terrible woman!)

Hillary (that woman) or Obama (no experience) are likely failed candidates unless the Clinton machine exists in real life as the Right thinks it does.

  • Q: Are Democrats really this lame?

    A: Yes.

  • The Central Theme is Restoring Democracy to the United States

Walsh covers a lot of topics, but the one that means the most to me is that the positive message of the Democratic nominee, whomever she or he is, has to be the restoration of the proper Constitutional order in the United States. Most of the campaign, so far, has focused on the bullshit that doesn't matter, like health care plans and energy plans and I simply want to wince whenever I see these debates. What I want to hear is the kind of things a President can do without Congress, which is to give back to the people all the things Bush and his cronies have taken away in the last six and a half years.

    No more signing statements.

No more ignoring clear Congressional mandates.

No packing of the civil service with political appointments (though it would be just fine to purge Bush's illegal ones).

No White House control of policies by Cabinet departments and administrative agencies in violation of their clear Congressional mandate.

And of course an end to the mistakes of Iraq.

Not too much to ask. I hope not too much to receive.

  • better than nothing...

I guess I'd rather see a book complaining about Dem and progressive activities, organizations, leaders and large donors -- no matter how wrong the book is-- than go back to the way it was 6 or 7 years ago when we didn't have all those Dem and progressive outlets, activities, organizations, leaders and large donors. Doesn't everyone remember what it was like? I was volunteering for a small progressive PAC in 2002; compared to the GOP we were wandering in the desert!

But, given how far we have come, how much work we still have to do and the terrible policies that we are fighting, I think someone needs to tell Mr. Bai that, perhaps he should take a chill pill and wait to see how all these new movements, groups and activities end up working out -- over more than just one or two election cycles.

  • Rahm said that??

I hadn't heard that. I feel better about him already. If he really said that, and meant it, then maybe sanity has a chance in our government yet.

those who accuse some of us of being "haters" conveniently forget that we hate Bush and Cheney and Lieberman *for a reason.* For many reasons. We don't hate them because they're hopeless assholes--although they are.

Had Bush and Cheney behaved like wise, responsible adults in power, they could be as asshole as they wanted, I would not have cared. Had they done the People's business, had they run the country to preserve the commons, to make this a better country and a better world, they could be the biggest assholes on the planet..ok by me. If they're doing the job, doing the job for benefit of all, observing the Golden Rule at the very least, then they're ok in my book, no matter how rotten they may be personally.

That's the part the right-wing gabblers obsessed with BDS don't get: we wouldn't hate them if there weren't lots of good reasons to do so. The right-wing gabblers *can't* afford to get that. Then they'd have to argue on the merits, and they'd lose. Badly.

  • Yes...unfortunately they are

    Ms Walsh:

To be blunt, for in these times one must be, the Democratic Party needs a strong voice with the BALLS to call out the criminals Bush and Cheney. To call for their impeachment. Nothing less will do.

No more speeches, symbolic votes, or girlie man talk.

Vile turds like bush and cheney only understand the iron fist and nothing less than their impeachment will do!

  • Where is our Karl Rove? Where are our 1950s Chicago ward heelers to muscle all these stray cats into one bag?

We need to face it. The Republicans knew how to keep their crazy aunts in the attic and get behind the simple monolithic message. The Republicans sold the fundamentalists Christians a bill of goods, but at least they got them to get on the bus, sit down, shut up and enjoy the ride. They got the gun lobby to stop scaring the crap out of people for a while. They got the Moonies and the American Nazis and all their lunatic fringe to keep quiet and lay low until the elections were over.

Democrats? No way. You hold a Democratic caucus or a Democratic straw poll and it's like a freak show. Nobody wants to shut up for the good of attracting swing voters. Elections coming up in November? Whoa, OK! It's time to have a naked gay and lesbian parade down Peachtree Ave. in Atlanta. Yeah, that's going to win the Southern vote! And be sure to get a bunch of of Earth Liberation Front people to take this great opportunity to burn down a new ski lodge in Vail. No election season would be complete without the PETA people breaking into a zoo and setting the primates free. Wheeeee! It's time to go crazy and show the country a preview of what life will be like when the Democrats take over.

Dennis Kucinich, please sing "Sixteen Tons" again. That'll make Middle America take you seriously. Hillary, go down to Georgia and put on your best imitation of a Southern black accent. That was a real eye opener, I'll tell you. Obama, get into a pissing contest with Al Sharpton. That shows real maturity and an ability to stay on message.

The only thing that is even keeping the Democratic Party alive right now are the gaffs the Republican candidates are making. I mean, Tom Tancredo? Wow! Giuliani says, "You leave my family alone and I'll leave your family alone." (not a direct quote, but close) He doesn't say what he's going to do to your family if you don't leave his family alone. But it has something to do with the Sopranos, I'm sure. Then there is Mitt. Oh man, what a wowser this guy is!

So all we can do is hold our breath and hope no Democrat says anything more stupid than any Republican, and hope that we can keep our crazy aunts in lockdown until November 5, '08. Is that too much to ask?
