You say: "In the 1970s, no one would or could have imagined that the dominant form of pop music of the last two decades of the 20th century would be rhythmatized boasts and threats delivered over beats."
This gross oversimplification of a varied, potent and often intelligent genre of music comes just a paragraph before a lamentation on the current state of race-relations. It's unfortunate that a device has not yet been invented which would detect hypocrisy.
