quietly, and by amazing coincidence ....
The long suspected truth about the assination plot has been confirmed. Saint John Hunt, E. Howard Hunt's son has produced the deathbed tape that detailed the CIA plot to kill Kennedy.

Of course, the name E. Howard Hunt brings up memories of Nixon and Watergate, but this also ties the Bush Famil (GHWB) to the assination.

Only one letter?
Jesus Christ...one letter. Where is everyone? I guess everyone is more worried about gay hobbits.

The great one
RFK was the true great Kennedy, and his death was the real death blow for a generation of hope.
I fully believe that a small group of old white men feared losing their place in the world and their power, and turned on their president, and later his brother.

The most intriguing mystery
"One of the most intriguing mysteries about the assassination of John F. Kennedy"....is all the tinfoil-hat-wearing yutzes who can't acknowledge the overwhelming, beyond a reasonable doubt pile of evidence that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone.
Pimping JFK conspiracy theories is the single most embarassing thing your magazine does.
-
This makes sense to me
I have long believed there was a conspiracy to assassinate John F. Kennedy, but I've never been totally sold on the many conspiracy theories out there.
I'm still not sure I buy all the Camelot crap that had JFK a great liberal hero, and I'm not sure I believe he'd have got us out of Vietnam sooner, but that's not the issue either.
What sold me on the idea of a conspiracy is the same as was what you report as a key element in RFK's thinking - why did this mobster Jack Ruby kill Oswald and did someone let him in to do it, and if so, why?
All the rest has always left me cold, all this analysis of the "magic bullet" and the "grassy knoll" -- all this theorizing just to prove there had to be a second GUNMAN -- as if there couldn't be a conspiracy with only one gunman and many backers. It was almost as if someone was floating crazy conspiracy theories to hide the simple one that has been staring us in the face all along.
I'll certainly read the book.

A little bit weak
"Recent evidence" doesn't cut it as persuasive argument. I'd like to see better reason to believe the assertions in this article than the say-so of David Talbot.
-
I knew this was going to happen...
I always prided Salon on being independent and beholden to no one...but alas, David Talbot has once again used this "independent" form to promulgate more conspiratorial crap that about some f'ing assasination that happened...how long ago now? Let me count...sorry, too far back for this Gen Xer to care!
I'm a student and dedicated reader of history...but this mental masterbation over the Kennedy shooting is just plain useless now...it's the mother of all conspiracies, yadi-yada, alright, we get it already...so what, that doesn't help us get our boys out of Iraq any faster...
-
"Recent evidence" doesn't cut it
Personally, my money is on Castro. Or maybe Martians.

E. Howard Hunt and the Assassination of JFK
A magazine called The Spotlight - what we'd now call an alternative newsweekly - published in 1964 an interview with an anonymous female "operative" who had one hell of a story to tell. Her claim was the she, two other men and E. Howard Hunt arrived in Dallas early on the morning of November 22, 1963. On the way Hunt had told them they were one of three "shooter teams" who were going to "take down someone very important." When the team arrived at their hotel in Dallas to prepare, Hunt dropped the bomb: It was going to be the President.
The woman freaked but showed no outward sign, lest she be killed. Not long afterwards she used her covert skills to slip away and into hiding.
Hunt sued the magazine for libel and defamation of character.
And he LOST, on both counts. Why this - absolute, incontrovertible proof of the conspiracy, in a court of law no less, three years before Garrison - has never been widely reported is simply mind-blowing.
And the cheap shot at Garrison was silly. Much of what Bobby Kennedy suspected Garrison later proved in court. So how was he a fraud?
-
This isn't exactly irrelevant ...
There is another Kennedy Brother in the Senate, and the son of a CIA man, and maybe a CIA man himself in the White House. This could be the making of a good blood feud.

Why JFK still matters??? and Looking for the next JFK???
JFK left a ginormous shadow, the shadow of a martyr carrying the hopes of a country. Obviously his legacy and assassination are a huge part of U.S. history. Any new insight on him is important and valuable.
That said -- the sooner baby boomers and liberals get over JFK and the search for the "NEXT JFK", the better off that wing of U.S. politics will be.
It's a really bad fetish or false hope to think there could be a next JFK. There WILL NOT BE a next JFK and we shouldn't be looking for one. Instead progressives and liberals should pull their heads out of the sand and look for the new Obama, the new Hillary Clinton, the new great leader. Someone who can pull the U.S. out of the muck with the collaboration of others.
It's time to move on. 1963 was 44 years ago.

Oswald did it and there was no conspiracy
Folks, boring as it may seem, the truth of this case is simple: Oswald brought his gun to work, stuck it out the window and shot JFK and Connally as they drove by the Texas School Book Depository, where Oswald had been working as a temp.
In the process of fleeing the crime scene Oswald murdered Dallas police officer J.D. Tippitt in cold blood in front of two eyewitnesses. Four other witnesses saw him leave this crime scene with, literally, the smoking gun in his hand.
Oswald was apprehended a few blocks away in a movie theater. He was armed with the Tippitt murder weapon.
Ballistic tests early the next morning revealed that a rifle recovered at the School Book Depository was the Kennedy murder weapon. This gun had been purchased by Lee Oswald and bore his palmprint.
That Oswald was even in Dallas, working at this building, at a time when JFK was driving by in an open limousine, the vehicle driving slowly away from the building in an almost straight line, a perfect target, is the end result of a long series of unpredictable chances.
Two days later Jack Ruby, also by the merest chance, found himself in a position to shoot Oswald and that is what he did. Less than two minutes before Ruby pulled the trigger he was across the street at a Western Union office sending money to one of his employees, a stripper.
Again - it was chance, pure chance that brought JFK to Oswald and Oswald to Ruby. To be sure, countless claims have been made over the years but none of them stand up to scrutiny.
Oswald did it. The evidence against him is on a par with the evidence against O.J. Simpson. But, just as a jury let O.J.'s lawyers bamboozle them with bogus faked evidence claims, most Americans have allowed themselves to be snookered by conspiracy claims.
Go ahead and believe what you want. But if you want a rational look at the crime, you might actually read the "Warren Report." My experience is that only a small fraction of the people who claim it is nonsense have bothered to read it.
