I've been calling attention to this for some time.
There was in interesting question posted recently on the discussion boards of democraticunderground.com that got me to thinking. In a lengthy post, the main point was this; “There seems to be an uptick on DU, both here and elsewhere, of posts in which Christians try to distance themselves from people like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell. Why are you doing this? I get it, you're not Jerry Falwell. So what? You're both Christians but you have different opinions. Why is this news?”
That’s a fair question, and I can see why a lot of people would ask it. It cuts to the core of the question of religion, faith and belief by asking “What’s the point you’re trying to make?”
In the interest of saving bandwidth, part one of my lengthy reply can be found at http://www.godhatesrepublicans.org/main/whatsnew.html under the heading "OK, so you preach against what Republicans stand for. What do YOU stand for?" Part One.
The quick summary I can give is, that it's time that the average Christian stand up and say in a loud clear voive "These Klu Klux Klan/Republican nightmare people don't speak for the rest of us."

WAKE UP !!
The sad fact is that if the silent majority doesn't wake the f*ck up and vote this November, we'll once again be at the mercy of these crazy bastards. Remember the "unsinkable" Titanic... It wasn't only an iceberg that sunk that ship - it was complacency. Right now, the people of this country are dangerously complacent. These "religious" lunatics must be stopped. They are as extreme and more dangerous than any terrorist out there. The bizarre thing about all of this is that if any of them really read the Bible, they would see that everything they're trying to accomplish is EVERYTHING Jesus spoke out against. What the hell is next? Burning women and cats at the stake??

Confederates and Pharisees
The national government has been hi-jerked by an unhold coalition of confederates and pharisees. Through the judiciary, in particular, they are well on their way to infecting us with AT LEAST a decade of xenophobic, homophobic, misogynistic, blindly nationalistic, anti-worker, anti-environmental "justice" system. The court system, intended to be a buffer against reactionary jerkoffs, will aid and abet these fascist freakazoids. Getting rid of Bushit and Co. is not enough. It's going to take years of dedication, not one orgasmic overthrow. These "people" do not believe in the constitution at all.

Michelle and homeschooling on "Fresh Air"
I heard Ms. Goldberg interviewed on "Fresh Air" today and I agree with her concerns and appreciate her documentation. But she implied that increased homeschooling was a major factor in the fundamentalism movement. According to the 2000 U.S. census only 33% of homeschooling parents cited religion as a reason for homeschooling. Most parents who take their kids out of public school do so for non-religious reasons.
There are many church-goers in my homeschooling group, but I've not met a single fundamentalist (though there are a few poly-amorous Wiccans!).
That's not to say that Christian fundamentalists aren't using homeschooling to further their cause, but I think it's important to note that there are many secular homeschooling parents like myself.

the Chrinzis
Early on, the Nazis were considered fringe nutcases by the Germans. Marching around in their brown shirts, buncha pimply losers looking for something to belong to. If Germany had gotten back on its feet after WWI and people had had a life, that's exactly what the Nazis would have remained, as they slowly dissolved into a bunch of disconnected, older pimple-scarred losers. But that's not how it happened. Same thing here. These right-wing Christian fundamentalist nut-jobs are and will stay on, the fringe if everything motors along well for the American economy. But Dog help us if things DON'T go well. If there's a crash, if people lose hope, if chaos and fear rule the day -- and it doesn't have to be riot-in-the-streets chaos, either, just a sense that we've slipped our moorings -- then these crazies will offer something that too many people will want, just as Hitler gave Germany someone to blame (and hate) in its darkest hour.
I'm old, I'll be fine. But it scares the bejaysus out of me for my kids.

Calm down
Yeah these people are crackpots, but this very month Alabama Gov. Riley led Moore 64-20 in a GOP poll on the primary. That would be, again, 64-20. That's worse than hillary would do against McCain. So come on, Michelle ... do some basic research before you cry wolf. These whack-jobs scare me too, but given Bush's numbers these days, even this country has some sense left.

I think you may be mistaken
What do you mean, "Fascism isn't imminent in America"? Have you looked into how much the U.S.A.P.A.T.R.I.O.T. and Homeland Security acts have in common with the Reichstag Fire Decree, or how much the "Unitary Executive Theory" smacks of the Enabling Act of 1933 and the doctrine of Führerprinzip?
History is repeating itself, albeit in slow motion.

Christian Nationalism
This is an old topic. People have been writing about this for years. There are always some people who hate the society they live in, whether they are Baptists from the South or Mormons from the West.
I believe that if you put Mormons, Baptists, Catholics, Reconstructionists, post-millennialists, and pre-millenialists in the same room, you will have the makings of a good Jerry Springer show with furniture throwing and hair pulling. Get these people alone to talk frankly about other Christian denominations and they will all tell you they are right and the other denominations are wrong. They have to differentiate themselves to get people to go to their churches and not someone else's. This is their weakness.
The Christian Right has had its chance with Congress and the Bush administration. Look where Bush and Congress are now.

This sounds familiar...
It seems a lot of the views professed by these people are from the KKK. Segragation, hatred for Jews and distain for a government that doesn't uphold these ideas are central to their theme. I hope Salon does further investigation into this.
