Why is the Military such a sacred cow?

Our culture demands we respect the Military and it's leaders. They certainly demand respect and get pretty damn snotty if they don't get it.

The Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines have been lying to us since Vietnam at least. This "service to our nation" ain't worth 800,000,000,000 dollars a year.

I'm sick of military worship. And sick of American soldiers put up to killing foreign civilians. And sick of the brass screwing the soldiers. And sick of the brain-dead, tough-guy crap.

Another thanks for the Molly link!!

Miss Molly very much, and she definitely has Paglia's number.

Camille Paglia sucks of course, but I never actually read her anymore. The letters are much better.

Original article: Sorry states of affairs

@Soliel - Then let the rich "Galt" themselves.

"When the "Rich" are taxed more, they will spend less going out to eat, vacationing, spas, etc where often service workers work...thus jobs will be lost. That will definitely effect the poor, a probably a great deal."

Ah, the old "trickle down" argument. Will the rich will have enough money to pay us to work for them?

Capitalism will never work unless we soak the rich.

Original article: Sorry states of affairs

Why we MUST soak the rich...

1. Adam Smith said so.

2. How else can a game of Monopoly be played forever?

3. The laws are setup to favor the rich and help them to funnel undeserved wealth into their pockets.

4. President Eisenhower said so.

5. Money is the life-blood of our economy. Rich people are festering thrombosis of stagnant wealth.

6. Rich people are aristocratic uber-lords. America doesn't do royalty.

The only way America can have a civil society with true free enterprise and some kind of equality is to soak the rich.

We like to think for ourselves....

Microsoft ( and Apple, to some extent ) software suffers from what I like to call "Overeager Butler Syndrome," as in; you bend over to tie your shoes and hit the head of the butler who leapt to do it without asking first.

Pro-Abortion and Proud of it.

Abortion, have one today! Try it, you'll like it! Really, you must have an abortion.

Of course I don't think that, but I'm sick of the weasel language.

It's NOT A PRE-BORN-BABY! It's a FOETUS.

It's NOT PROLIFE, it's ANTI-ABORTION.

And anti-abortionists are moral cowards. They're hiding behind the children.

Yes I'm pro-Abortion. I think abortion is a good thing, when compared to the alternatives.

and sorry bout the yelling. don't usually do that...

Friday, April 10, 2009 08:34 PM

Oh the guilt!..... oh the shame!! @Ragged Rose and his orchestra...

"I think the women who use abortion as birth control probably live in the same building as the welfare queens who double and triple-dip the system"

Like the high-income manager I knocked up and who had an abortion so we could avoid having an unwanted baby?

Neither of us have the least bit of guilt about it, although I do wonder what kind of kid it might have been, this fantasy baby that never was.

And that's the point, a foetus isn't a baby, and the dead babies in the fevered minds of anti-abortionists are self-righteous fantasies, good excuses to indulge in the pleasures of being indignant and outraged and "right."

And to avoid dealing with the real injustices that happen to real people.

Friday, April 10, 2009 09:07 PM

Human Shmuman - it's a foetus!

People can see running horses in clouds, can see Jesus in coffee stains, but most of all, people can see faces in just about anything.

Seeing a foetus as a baby is normal. And seeing a thunderbolt as the word of God is normal too. But neither is real.

Fantasy is fine and dandy.

But let's agree, no fantasies in government-enforced laws, ok?

We don't need newspapers, we need journalism...

And the best journalism doesn't come from highly paid, college educated professionals, it comes from hard-nosed working class stiffs who care more about the story then the salary. ( much less bonuses or stock options.)

The 'business model' is a professional term, used by those concerned about maximizing income, and has nothing to do with journalism.

There will always be journalists, although readers will have to use some critical thinking rather then seeking a "brand to trust."

Good point, David.

I think you're right.

@Goedel - Melody is harder

The golden age of melodic pop songs must be from 1920-1970. There were giants of melody then, but electric instruments changed things. The sudden expansion of timbral possibilities led to the atrophy of melody.

IMO, the artistic attributes of time and timbre are as valid as those of melody, but melody is harder.

Besides, I think that strong melody is too sincere for most people. We live in cynical times and a monotone vocal style sounds more apathetic and savvy.

Right on Poco! cut taxes on the rich!!!

We can't tax the rich, or else they won't have enough money to pay us to do things for them.

if some major catastrophe was averted due to intelligence gained through the interrogations.

This is frosting on the big lie; Cheney is giving his supporters something to believe in, that torture really kept us safe.

There is no such evidence. Cheney is lying again, but not to you or me. He's lying to people who want to be lied to.

Good advice, but will employers listen?

The people who need this advice the most are the least likely to take it.

As for Google, have non-technical management types achieved control of hiring? If so, too bad.

Society needs homogeneity...

and these days we use science and medicine to address the eternal problem of different people.

Autistic kids or we ADHD people just need to "get with the program." We need to become like everyone else, no matter how expensive or dangerous the drugs are.

It's for the best, isn't it? Weirdos bad, right?

Shorter Wingnut...

"I will never admit to being wrong about anything of importance, and will never admit that my side is wrong about anything important, because such an admission will make me look like a weak pussy and I don't want to get beat up at recess again."

The rest writes itself.

Actually, real world people aren't that savage.

The idea that people become vicious animals in times of crisis is wrong, it's just not true. People behave a lot better under crisis then they do in times of comfort.

Original article: A-Rod isn't a cheater

The Writer is Correct...

And I'm sick of hyper-moralizing, self-righteous hypocrites. Let it alone, steroids aren't "cheating" and they won't lead to the downfall of civilization any more then the steam engine, nylon stockings or jazz music did.
