cdevlin @ all these "feminist Democrats" are neither

Must be nice to be comfortable enough so that you can lodge a "protest vote" because Hillary lost, so instead of backing the candidate that supports pay equity, abortion rights, and access to health care and birth control, you're going to rage against the machine by backing the candidate that is going to nominate conservative judges, doesn't give a shit about abortion rights, and won't do a damn thing to help middle-class women's access to birth control.

What brilliant logic. Surely that's what Elizabeth Cady Stanton would do.

What did you think when Hillary gave her speech about "did you vote for me? Or did you vote for all the things I stand for?"

You're being used. McCain and all Republicans work by duping people out of voting in their own self-interest by using non-issues as a distraction. So Sarah Palin has a vagina - wonderful! Clearly the feminist thing to do is to vote for her, despite her anti-choice stance and her willingness to sign on to the anti-woman Republican agenda more broadly.

You think you're "protesting" sexism in politics, but you're playing right into the hands of a party that Does. Not. Give. A. Shit. About. You.

Democrats have many, many flaws. Obama has flaws. Hillary has flaws. NONE of these flaws, and NONE of the systematic flaws, will be redressed by electing John McCain. As somebody who has worked in Hillary's office, voted for her in the primary, and has worked for reproductive justice organizations and the advancement of feminist policies (and used to live in Wasilla, AK), hearing this "protest" line of reasoning makes me long for a repeal of the 19th amendment. Believe it or not, there are more important things than your self-satisfaction at the voting booth. There is justice at stake.

@cecilbeanie

Thank you for posting that anecdote about your Republican business owner who is voting for Obama. I don't know too many Republicans so it is so refreshing to hear that there are some that are reasonable and have actually well-thought out political philosophies (that I may disagree with, but at least they aren't based on whether or not Obama wears a flag pin or the fact that Palin may or may not have once sold a plane that was used to transport prisoners to jail in Arizona.)

I fervently wish that political discourse in this country was more reasonable. I can respect people such as your Republican who have a legitimate competing approach to governance. Sorry to see that the Republican party hasn't wanted to talk about philosophy or better governance in a civilized way for decades. Instead we get "Democrats are unpatriotic socialists". How productive.

The Democratic party has attempted to take the high road this election. They have numerous faults, but the attempt to elevate the political discourse is refreshing. However I truly worry that the Republican fear machine, by appealing not to people's rational side but their "lizard brains", are going to win and screw this country over again. So thanks for showing me that there are people out there who don't fall for this kind of bullshit. It helps.

Ahem

It's only sad that the follow up to a story about a reasonable Republican is an ill-informed, racist screed by somebody whose screen name is - ironically - a bird commonly symbolizing wisdom.

Nope, sorry

These are all awesome (if easy... who isn't going as Sarah Palin this year?) Trig is definitely the best, though.

Original article: McCain gets mean

On the eve of this election, a question for McCain, any McCain supporter, or any member of the Republican party

Have you no decency, sir? At long last, have you no decency?
