Original article: Correction on Sarah Palin

Mr. Greenwald

I mostly agree with you except for one thing: Hillary Clinton.

Yes, Hillary benefitted from being married to Bill. But the benefit was offset by the fact that women in Hillary's age group, like myself, were also disadvantaged, coming of age in a time where a political career for a woman was at best rare.

When Hillary was in her thirties, before Bill was governor, when she had a chance to run on her own before he made his name.....it was the seventies. Women were just beginning the fight for equal rights.

It is easier now for younger women to move forward in the world of politics. It is still difficult for an older woman. Palin has had to deal with the same sexism as did Hillary. But Hillary also had to deal with the ageism, an ism that hits women much harder than men. Older men are looked upon as distinguished......an older woman with gray hair running for office????

Sarah Palin may be bright and assertive but her knowledge base is limited. Her world view is narrow and having her a heartbeat away from the presidency is damn scary. But it was also scary that even the smartest men and women did not get how unfair the press was to a smart and capable woman who yes, did have to use her husband's coattails because in her youth a woman pushing for high office was at best a dream some of us related to our female students, younger siblings and daughters.

Now our dream is lost because Hillary was treated unfairly, and lost even more because someone with the closed mind of Sarah Palin may get closer than someone with the brilliance and experience of Hillary.

Original article: Cranky vs. cool

Obama was debating; McCain was

the military version of "frat boy" W.....

McCain was the same arrogant jerk he has always been. I am so sick of dems and republicans being forced to start every sentence with "I admire John, and respect his service..." or "He's my friend and I respect his service." I understand that in this country we are not allowed to be critical of any republican who served his country by going to war (obviously the rule does not extend to dems: THINK KERRY). And look what happened to Wes Clark when he dared criticize the war hero.

I am sick of McCain getting away with being an arrogant jerk and b*stard because he served. I remember his nasty remarks about then adolescent Chelsea Clinton and even though the Clintons have publicly forgiven him, who can respect as a "hero" a man who needs to trash a kid.

I watched as the jerk refused to look at his opponent. He came off as the nasty man that he is. He's all about the one upmanship...the win.

Obama was not my first choice (not because of issues but because I believe Hillary was more prepared to take down the republicans....she would have torn McCain a new one in that debate). Obama is not a great debater. But he looked presidential compared to McCain. He showed class, dignity and knowledge whereas all McCain could do is personally insult.

Another four years of an arrogant frat boy mentality will destroy this country. VOTE OBAMA.

Original article: The dumbing down of the GOP

I said this exact thing to friends yesterday

When the heck is the right going to stop pushing ignorance, intolerance and a lack of the command of basic language as "good qualities." Considering how many right wing bozos are pushing "English Only" legislation maybe they ought to take a look at the English skills of the current dolt in the White House and the dolt who wants to be VP.

What the hell is wrong with these people. Any adult watching Palin during the debate could see she repeating talking points, had no real knowledge and was using "folksy" to cover her lack of in depth understanding of the issues. And yet the sanctimonious hypocrites of the right, people like Peggy Noonan, Pat Buchanan and Bill Bennett is allowed to slide. These people are greedy jerks who would elect a chimpanzee as long as it insured their wealth.

Americans need to wake up and take these greedy creeps to task for what they have done to the middle class.
