I am shaking my head at the sanctimony of the left being followed by the so called shock of some on the left, or in other cases, the excuses.
Some of these same people were skewering Hillary Clinton, day in, day out, charging her with every mistake made by Bill, claiming her "pragmatism" was evil.
Daschle supposedly had an deep and divisive hatred of the Clintons, looked his nose down at them, and with the Obama campaign in general, spun the Clintons to be influence peddling, racist, evil people. Daschle and that group of dems sneered at Hillary in every way possible.....
yet Hillary, who could have done anything after serving as first lady, chose more public service.
Daschle, Edwards, and so many more of our "holier than thou" legislators, cheated on their wives and yet act like Hillary is a bad woman for staying with Bill. While Dsachle bragged about marriage being sacred (while having left his first wife and children, not unlike Newt and all the other holier than thou types), the sanctimonious left of the Obama campaign, derided Hillary for forgiving and working to keep her marriage in tact.
I supported Obama after the disappointment of Hillary losing. But, I knew this would happen. Hillary was trashed for learning pragmatism after the media and the right wing trashed her nd Bill for trying to go left. I knew Obama was a pragmatist from the get go. While Hillary might be doing the same thing, the difference is that the media would have demonized her even before one decision was made. They gave Obama a few weeks....and now they will turn on him. This would be the same media the lefty blogs adored because they trashed and demeaned Hillary daily.
You were great. You nailed it. Our pundit class is composed of contented plutocrats who have no desire to see their cushy, power and party filled lifestyles trimmed.
Sadly I do not think it matters.
While I had great hope for the dems to change things, it has been dashed and killed with this post partisan bs.
One reason I was for Hillary over Obama was that I believe she learned the hard way about how to deal with the right. Obama is still learning and somehow thinks that compromising with vipers will work. Bill may have been forced to triangulate his last four years, but he passed stuff without a single republican.......
Hillary was sure, back then, like Obama that when in good faith she tried to steer health care to universal, she could work with all. Like Obama, she believed that because it was for the common good, even the right would put aside their self interests...she learned in the hardest way how vindictive, how nasty those neocons are. They could care less about the common good, could care less about poor children.
I do not believe Hillary would play that game again. I was hoping Obama's post partisanship talk was just campaign rhetoric. But when he allows dolts like McCaskill to be a spokesperson, something is wrong.
I fear for our country, for the many who have already lost jobs, homes, for the children who are the biggest losers because the democrats, including Obama, have no guts to fight.
I think this headline from Firedog Lake says it all:
For Sensible Senate Moderates, Illiterate, Malnourished Children Are Keys to America’s Future
in 2007 or 2008 (not sure) with a panel discussing the media's role in politics, in the run up to the war. Three of the four panelists were David Gregory, Helen Thomas and Dan Rather (don't remember the fourth). Helen clearly and I suspect for not the first time lamented the press corps failure in getting answers from the Bush administration in the run up. Gregory was rude and defensive to Helen, denying it like an adolescent denying misbehavior everyone saw.
Dan Rather agreed with Helen.
Gregory is a tool. So was Russert. So is Todd. Despite pretending to be liberal, most of NBC is all about going along with the right wing. These are millionaire pundit kids.....who like the plutocracy and like their ability to party with the rich and powerful. I give kudos to Maddow, but even she is letting people off the hook. She will soon be as much of a tool as them all. In the end, until we break up the corporate monopolies who control the message, Americans have work harder independently to find the truth.
evil Pelosi's fault; just as everything was the evil Hillary's fault. Nothing has changed in that world. Women are not respected by the press; look at what Matthews (and friends) got away with on his show saying about Hillary and STILL he sat silently when that pig Armey was ignorant and rude to you.
And where is the outrage of the so called liberal press with how O'Reilly trashed Helen Thomas. But say a bad word about some elderly bigot and all h*ll breaks loose.
I am as discouraged as it gets. After Hillary lost, I supported Obama 100% and then some with time and money.
I fear his reaching out to a bunch of greedy creeps who are bragging about using Taliban methods to stop the president is a losing deal. These guys do not care about what is right, about the American people...I do not believe these jerks believe in anything but their corporate masters and how much money and power they have.
I wish Americans would stand up, go in the streets, whatever and send a message to the jerks. And President Obama needs to stop trying to negotiate with the vermin.
