  • a new noun for the American Language

[Read the article: The tragic fall of Eliot Spitzer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

In a flash while communicating with Ralph the great porcelain god it occurred to me that there is now a new word that could be added to the American language and that is "SPITZER" an extremely expensive sex toy. At the economy level there is "HO" a dollar store toy, then comes the "PROSTITUTE" a toy that a Wall martt type store would sell. Higher up is the "CALL GIRL" a Seers product. Finally at the very top something that is available only on Rodeo Drive or the equivalent or by appointment and with pre-approval, there is the "SPITZER" as yet undefined as to pertinent characteristics.

I wonder what makes a "SPITZER" so much more expensive than a "HO"?

[Read the article: Geraldine Ferraro still needs to apologize]

    Joe,

like a great many Americans you seem to have confused political campaigning with a love-in. You seem to have a very low outrage level. Why should Geraldine apologize for what she said? What I know about Obama I've picked up from the media but he seems to be and honorable and decent man. On the other hand he is swimming so to speak in a tank full of voracious sharks. It is a "take no prisoners" type of game so he must have certain qualities that are impossible to be in concert with yours and others sense of political correctness.

Where is all this political correctness coming from? For a nation with a government that borders on criminal there seems to be an awful lot of sycophants following the various candidates around. Why they exist is not clear but right now their principal job seems to be self-aggrandizement by tilting at verbal windmills. Surely since America is a God fearing and God loving country,if her comments were so evil the Lord God Almighty would have struck her down by now. Look what happened to Atlanta yesterday!

Ms. Ferraro is entitled to her opinion and is entitled to voice it without apology. What she said is a probably correct, Obama would be nowhere as successful if he were white, despite his intellect and charisma.

While not quite as titillating as the Spitzer affair, in some quarters Ms. Ferraro's comment seems to be just as arousing to the sensibilities of the politically correct.

If the GOP wins in the form of McCain who looks like a bonzai Bush it will be business as usual, rich get richer, etc., etc. If the Democrats win, it really won't matter which one,it will take superhuman abilities to sweep out the Augean Stables of 8 years of accumulated detritus. The new president will find that some changes are just not possible barring a catastrophe of some nature.

If your homie wins you will no doubt have at least 4 years defending him from evil words that offend your sense of political correctness.

I have no reason to doubt that what your recount is factual. The real issue is that the people of America have allowed themselves to be so frightened by the administrations mantra of how America is on the edge of Armageddon and can only be saved by extreme measures. Apparently, only by ignoring the foundations of America success such as the Constitution, The Geneva Convention, other international agreements and the freedom of the individual, can America become safe from unknown threats.

Why have the people allowed themselves to be deceived without a mighty protest? How can the nation allow men and women to be placed in harms way sometimes serving 5 tours? How can they permit the Administration to waste gold and blood on endeavors that are very unlikely to be successful?

Do Americans still believe that it is their God given duty to democratize the rest of the world? Afghanistan in its various forms has been fought over for millennia and each time the outcome was the same, the invaders went ignominiously home after a time licking their sores. How can the fiasco that is Iraq be permitted to continue without protest?

America is a great country with great people who seem to be more than willing to sacrifice themselves. Given the problems at home perhaps it is time to concentrate on home issues?

Some interesting comments especially by some of the hawks who seem to be living in some sort of fantasy land. Despite the hawk's claims to the contrary America's intelligence as to what was happening In Iraq prior to AMerica's attack was poor to non-existant. Despite the demonstrated fact that the "war" is un-winnable the hawks want to continue to waste blood and gold so that America can extract revenge for the slight of 911 and demonstrate their power and might.

Hussein was no more a threat to the security of the world than Bermuda. He may have been a threat to Israel though. Past utterances of former presidents are of no consequence. What matters now is how to restore peace and government to Iraq. It appears America attacked Iraq without the slightest idea of what to do after Hussein's forces were defeated, which they were certainly going to be given all the technology arraigned against them. Now it is paying for that oversight with a civil war and anarchy.

Given America's other problems, leaving Iraq is not waving the white flag or surrender but common sense. Imagine what the 2 or 3 trillion dollars -even devalued ones, could do for the people of America.

WhAt a pathetic load of Horse Feathers from McCain. The only thing that partly redeems him is that he partly acknowledged that he really didn't know what he was talking about.

Are people really prepared to elect such a man?
