My grandparents took in my grandmother's mentally ill sister. Result? My mother got married at 18 and a few years later, my uncle joined the Army in the middle of the Vietnam war.
Because of this experience, my parents have made sure they will continue to be financially self-sufficient well into their dotage. God forbid something medically goes wrong, they have that covered too. I am so grateful, although, paradoxically, it is because they have not assumed their children exist to take care of them, I would actually be pretty happy to do so.
Ads that encourage women to save and invest their hard earned dollars?
I cannot find a doctor who is willing to tie my tubes. One would think that as a 35 year old woman, I know by now that I don't want children, but I guess not.
I really, really like running. I run almost every day. I run marathons, half marathons, 10k's, ultra distances. I feel antsy if I don't run on a regular basis (5-6 times a week). I run in heat, in rain, whenever I can squeeze it in. But, that's me. I understand that some people wouldn't run unless someone large and threatning was chasing them with a sharp object. They cannot understand what is enjoyable about it. They don't like getting sweaty, working running into their daily routine, spending money on shoes, finding a route that is free from traffic, etc.
I think sex is the same way. Some people just don't dig it. It's messy and dirty and not always enjoyable. It can be uncomfortable, embarassing, or even painful. It can kill you, give you a disease, or result in an unwanted pregnancy. Some folks want it every day, others wouldn't do it unless someone large and threatning was chasing them with a sharp object.
There is a HUGE range of what should be considered "normal".
My dentist has really bad halitosis! I'm shopping for a new one...
But I suspect it wouldn't change the negative feelings I have about my appearance.
When I was in college, I had surgery to remove a "node" from my sinus that was impeding my breathing. I then took up running, since I could breathe properly. Now, 15 years later, I can afford the cosmetic surgery to fix my nose's appearance, but I would be loathe to give up running during the recovery.
Although, I'm looking in a little hand mirror next to my desk here and my nose is truly horrendous...
I am a non smoker, but my doc never mentioned any risks about taking the pill over 35 - I just saw her this week and I turn 35 next week. Hmmm.... maybe she doesn't want to say anything b/c I keep pestering her to tie my tubes year after year? Which she won't do b/c I haven't had wealth destroyers, I mean children?
Just what is a size 10 these days? There is no standard sizing in the US and with vanity sizing, things get even more schizophrenic!
I am 5'5" and I weigh 115 pounds. I have always maintained this weight during my adult life. I have items in my closet from the 90's that fit perfectly and are a size 6. I have items puchased in the last several years that are a size 0 or 2 and are absolutely swimming on me, and items that are a 4 that fit just fine. I have bridesmaids dresses that required very little alteration that are a size 12. I went shopping in Argentina a few years ago and only the very largest sizes fit me. It makes no sense and shopping is very frustrating!
I think the photo of Ms. Simpson was taken at an unflattering angle while she was wearing unflattering jeans. I saw a photo on the Daily Mail website of her recent performance in Wisconsin and she looked just fine, wearing Daisy Dukes and cowboy boots.
Finally, WHO CARES! I am not attractive and will never be at any size. Some people are attractive at all sizes, or even look better with some meat on their bones. At the end of the day, don't we have a little more to worry about than the pants size of mediocre performers?
If you can even concentrate on it, what if you get pregnant? Who can afford a child, and where can you get an abortion? It's fiscally irresponsible to have sex!
You can make it to your cousin's second wedding. LOL! No, in all seriousness, it's a gift to have a job in this economy. You're better off keeping your professional contacts in line right now... after all, is your cousin going to pay your bills if you get laid off? Everyone should understand.
I like being in control of my body and its desires. I like not having these "urges" that everyone else has. It makes me feel superior to not need sex. Everyone else is just a rutting monkey, but not me!
It's common in Latin cultures to name female children after the mother.
If you report sexual harassment, you will just be labeled a complainer and a crank and you'll kill your career. So, the best course of action really is leaving.
I hate to shop. Nothing fits right, and thanks to vanity sizing, even a size 0 is too big on me. I am wearing Ann Taylor pants in a size 0 right now and there are 2 inches between my skin and the material.
I am not some anorexic teenager. I am a 35 year old woman at a normal weight for my height and body type.
I agree with the other posters... stop it already with the vanity sizing and standardize measurements already!
