It's Cheaper to Keep Her

I have observed that men (and some women) who are happy to log those long hours away from their families don't actully enjoy spending time with their spouses and kids. Working every night till 8 or 9pm and coming in on Saturday ensures even less time at home. They'd get divorced, but.... it's cheaper to keep her!

Just Great!

Some guy ejaculated inside you, so now I have to be "patient"? Incredible!

Interesting point you bring up. I think men love to complain about a lack of sex in their marriages, but I also think that they buy into the whole "Madonna-Whore" complex claptrap. The woman you marry is not supposed to *gasp* like sex! Self-fulfilling prophecy....

BTW, how on earth did you know your parents were still going at it 3 times a week?! Egads! That's not information I would want to know about my parents!

I Would Have Loved Uniforms in H.S.

They're a fantastic idea! Totally removes the social pressure and puts everyone on an even playing field. Then kids can focus on school.

It's Fine To Criminalize Abortion

Just as long as any woman anywhere can be allowed to have her tubes tied, no questions asked.

@catnmus

To your point #2 - this happens WAY more than you'd think, esp. considering that at least 50% of pregnancies in the U.S. are unintended.

I worked with a woman who was in her mid 30's, college educated, in a professional job. She and her husband (a doctor) were not actively trying to get pregnant, so imagine her surprise when she found out that she was - almost SIX MONTHS pregnant.

Having Children is Optional

I certainly wouldn't expect my employer to grant me any special privileges to have cosmetic surgery, so why should my employer grant mothers special rights regarding breastfeeding? Having children is OPTIONAL. To be done on one's own time. Not to interfere with your employer's goal of making MONEY! There are plenty of people who OPT to not have children that would be happy to do a "working" mother's job.

What Is Important to the LW?

Is it having a relationship with her husband, or having a child? Because to have a child with another man's sperm obviates the need to have her husband. Why bother? She is choosing being a mother over her husband.

She needs to either divorce her husband and go through with a pregnancy with donated sperm, or stay with her husband and adopt, or opt to not have children.

Cate, With All Due Respect....

You're wrong. There are plenty of people (men and women) with advanced degreed that don't have children. If I were a business owner, I would go out of my way to hire qualified people with no children. Of course, in this ultra-PC environment, you CAN'T discriminate against people with children, or people who might have children. Too bad, perhaps if we could, the U.S. could return to being a world economic power.

For Once!

I agree with Brightstar! It's the whole KISS theory - Keep It Simple, Stupid! Eat REAL foods, in reasonable quantities, and be active. Duh!

Yet... I also agree with KarenWWW. I, too, was one of those completely uncoordinated and also extremely unpopular kids. The very thick glasses didn't help. I would much rather have been reading than do anything remotely related to physical exercise, until I got to college and discovered running and the gym! These are activities that don't require team participation or a rigorous schedule.

I still think gym equipment for very young children is silly, but introduction to solitary exercise for teens and tweens could start a lifetime of healthy habits.

BTW, my mom also tried enrolling me in ballet and ice skating, but I was such a pariah, the other kids refused to participate once they saw I was in the class.

Barely a B!

I'm barely a B (all natural!) and my pitiful excuse for ta - ta's shake and shimmy and are pretty damn saggy.

How about a tax?

On foods with little or no nutritional value? Eat poorly all you want; you're just going to pay for it. It worked really well for smoking in NYC.

And regarding the size issue - vanity sizing drives me crazy! I am what I consider a "normal" sized person, at 5'5" and 115 - 120 lbs. My closet is full of 2's that are too baggy on me. This is ridiculous!

What about washing hands BEFORE the bathroom?

People's genitals are actually pretty clean - cleaner than your hands. People are probably better off washing their hands before using the toilet.

Also, what is it with women peeing on the seat? It's rampant at my workplace, and they even provide the seat covers. Very frustrating and disgusting.

I'm With Holly Capote

There are waaaay too many people on the planet. We need to stop making it easier for people to have kids (via flex time, tax deductions and our general child-centric culture) and maybe those who DO choose to have kids will do so in a more responsible manner.

I Don't Get It

WHY do people stay working in a hostile environment? It's not like she was working on a factory line somewhere with no other options. If you feel harassed, it's probably because they don't want you there, so just leave and go somewhere you're wanted. She's an educated woman - it's not like she didn't have other options. I think MSG should bring a suit against her for setting them up for a big windfall in court.

RD - I AM Female!

So take that and stuff it up your "feminist" bum!

And Amen to Anon at 11:43.

Too many cases like this one and every woman in the workplace will be viewed as a potential liability to be handled with kid gloves rather than an equal.

Birth Control

How about it?!

Just like George Bush to push abstinence only education, make it extremely difficult to obtain birth control and the morning after pill, curtail women's rights to have abortions, and then cut off health care funding once those kids are born to woefully unprepared parents. NICE!

Thursday, October 4, 2007 09:38 AM

Absolutely!

I left a previous job because I worked exclusively with car dealers and I didn't like it. They behaved disrespectfully to me (actually to everyone), so I moved on. I didn't whine and complain about a hostile work environment.
