I'm still trying to get over the idea that Jon Stewart "doesn't make fun of John McCain". I don't know what Christopher1988 has been smoking, but I watch the Daily Show regularly, and for the past year Jon's been skewering McCain with abandon. Lately it's been almost every night. A few years ago, Jon had a cordial relationship with the man (back when McCain didn't come off as a self-serving shill), but a couple of disastrous interviews pretty much put paid to that. The guy's completely sold out, and there are few things that come in for Stewart's scorn so much as a power whore.

As to the merits of these comics, I can't honestly think of anybody on television I respect as much as Stewart and Colbert. Jon tends to downplay his effectiveness as a news source, as he should, but the truth is that he is a source for many people. I mean, where the hell else are we supposed to go for news? The MSM? They're patently brown-nosing, money-hogging sell-outs themselves. Why on earth should we trust them? At the very least, The Daily Show by virtue of not being beholden to the networks, has no reason to shill for this utterly corrupt government. That makes them a far more trustworthy source, despite the comedy. After all, the jokes are about something - if Larry Craig hadn't done anything, the jokes wouldn't have made any sense, would they?

Stewart and Colbert (and Maher to a lesser extent) are in a very small handful of people who are actually talking about all the ugly, vicious, power-mongering and lawbreaking bullshit this administration has indulged in for the past eight years. That's the job of the traditional news media, who by and large have abdicated it. We should be glad somebody has taken up the slack. That they're funny is just the cherry on the cake, as far as I'm concerned.

Disapproval of McCain makes one a Democrat? In what universe? You are aware that a great many Republicans are criticizing McCain these days, right? Including senior members of the armed forces. It's not just Democrats who see through the guy's "straight talk" bullshit. His own fellow party members are starting to back away from him on the Group W bench, there.

For those of you smirking about that quote, you do realize that it's a thought about the U.S., not Germany, don't you? It's commenting on what we did in Dresden, not on what Germany might or might not become. THAT is why it's prophetic, and why it fits the current situation. Nobody can say what will happen henceforth in Iraq, but we can all pretty much agree that it's in the state it's in because of us.

Oh and count on surgarman to come up with a choice bit of nastinesss. Good show, dude. Let everyone be sure to know your opinion on a great writer. By the way, how many innocent corpses have you carried in your time? Maybe spending a few days surrounded by the torn and rotting bodies of your country's art of war will bring you just a tad bit of compassion for an enemy. But methinks I may be hoping for too much, there.

I'm sure you could sneer a little harder if you put some effort into it. Isn't it just AWFUL how women make money off being sociable and entertaining in Japan? Why can't other countries have OUR standards? SUCH barbarians! There's a saying about glass houses, and until we live in a society has no need for people who earn a living giving other people companionship, sex, or the illusion of being cared about, how about we just keep our little cultural judgments to ourselves? That okay with you?

All I can say is that men in Iran must be the most useless little wusses on the planet, if the sight of a woman's hair can murder them on the spot.

We just let the world go to hell, is that it? Breed ourselves out of existence like the pig-headed, selfish monkeys we are, yes?

    Good plan.

The difference being that most herbal remedies will cost a tenth of the pharma kind, if that. I remember once being prescribed a medicine for a yeast infection that would have set me back $75. I went to the grocery store, bought some yogurt and acidopholus, and cleared up the problem for a grand total of $6.50. No contest, as far as I'm concerned.

Considering that we know next to nothing about Shakespeare and his family, any book purporting to explain their relationship is just blowing hot air. Whole careers have been made out of taking one known fact and embroidering it into volumes. I really wish people would stop obsessing on who the man was. We're never going to know that - the documentation simply DOES NOT EXIST. Why are we such suckers for the Cult of Personality? Why can't we just enjoy what the man wrote and let it go at that?

I pinpoint sexism for a living.

"You don't know the history of sexism! I DO!!"

Guess the expert has spoken. Any feminists who disagree can just STFU.

  • So

[Read the article: My body, my choice, my art project?]

I guess all that stuff about how women should decide what to do with their own bodies only holds so long as you approve of it? Seems "feminism" doesn't keep a girl from being hellaciously judgmental, does it Catherine?

If you don't like it, don't look at it. It's not as if anybody's getting HURT. And yes, I know it wasn't real, which makes the "it's still dumb" comment DOUBLY disgusting. It's perfectly alright for the Broadsheet writers to do what they like with their own bodies (i.e., use their mouths to be catty bitches to any women who don't meet their standards) but the gods forbid any other women take the same liberty.

Please get off my side. You CONSTANTLY make my side look bad.
