  • *yawn*

[Read the article: Coulter: "Who's running this holocaust in Darfur, FEMA?"]

Same same old old. Coulter has ceased to hold any interest for me. She's a desperate ass braying for attention, and her mouthings are meaningless to anyone with a brain.

And all your hand-wringing about how you "know" she's ridiculous but you just "couldn't help" yourselves? Is pure bullshit. If you "knew" she was irrelevant, Alex, you wouldn't write about her. But the one thing you do "know" is that she gets attention, so you keep bringing her up. There's a word for that - hypocrisy - and it would behoove Salon not to keep indulging in that particular vice. Because you know, publishing pieces like this makes you come off just as desperate for attention as she is.

I keep wondering if these people know what the words Sunni and Shiite actually mean. Do they understand that these are whole sections of Islam, not just groups of fanatics? It'd be like talking about exterminating all the Protestants because some fundamentalist cults are whacko.

What if the tactical mistake we made in Iraq was that we didn't kill enough Sunnis in the early going to intimidate them and make them so afraid of us they would go along with anything?

*falls over giggling* Gods, this guy knows nothing about the Middle East, doesn't he?

  • Excuse me, a little interest please?

[Read the article: Rabbit Bites: The Richard Gere scandal]

But what the hell is going on at Video Dog? Are all you people out on vacation? Over the last couple of months, the page has dwindled down to where almost all the posts are either episodes of Hometown Baghdad or this rabbit thing. I mean, come on. They were interesting at first, but it got ridiculous about a month ago. Other than an occasional clip of Bill Maher, you people seem to have completely given up on this page.

Is there NOTHING out there in viral video land that you consider worth your while anymore? What happened to all the odd art vids, the clips from comedy shows, interesting commercials or interviews? Even the cute animal clips have disappeared, for gods' sakes!

Guys, get it together, please. Don't assume that you can just skate along on a couple of series that don't necessarily interest all your viewers. And if it's too much trouble to take a little time finding interesting stuff, then shut the column down. Because it's getting really depressing coming here and being reminded of how good it was about six months ago.

  • Lovely thought...

[Read the article: Does a white Web burn too many watts?]

...but impractical for those of us who don't have hundreds of dollars to blow on a new screen. I've been wanting an LCD screen for years, but I haven't had that kind of spare change for at least a decade. (My current monitor is a used one that a friend gave me when my original one - eight years old already - finally blew its porch light.)

I know the price of these things goes down over time, but a hell of a lot of people simply can't shell out a thousand dollars for a gizmo. Not even $300 (which is where the cheapest LCD screens stand now, at my last check). We're the folks that have a hard time making the rent, and I for one spend my share of time worrying about what will happen when my screen (or hard drive or processor or whatever) stops working and I can't supplement my income on the web anymore.

The day the computer companies stop making themselves filthy rich and start pricing their products more reasonably is the day you'll see large numbers of people making this kind of switch for energy reasons. Until then, the talk of "green" computing will be something folks with money can indulge in. The rest of us have a hard enough time just keeping our machines from dying at all.

  • Another reason...

...not to use CFL bulbs: quality of light.

My eyesight is not good, and in order to see reasonably well, my eyes need strong light. All the CFL bulbs I've encountered give off light that makes it very difficult for me to see by. Don't know if it's the color (though I doubt that) or simply the strength of the light, but until a CFL bulb is made that gives off light I can function by, I'm sticking with plain ol' incandescents.

  • Huh?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Having seen the pic, I have to say: if that's what's got that reader is such an uproar, then one must conclude that it's been a long time since that reader saw a penis. Because, you know, that doesn't look like any penis I've ever seen.

    ...but just WTF is this?

The writers on Broadsheet have indulged themselves in gossip before, but this crosses the line. Since when is this a trashy celebrity column? What's the matter, have you all gotten bored with the demise of The Fix?

Please leave off with the Stupid Celebrity Antics and confine yourselves to reporting actual women's news, ok?

  • Hm

So much for the ballyhooed "Democrats control Congress". One person does not a controlling majority make. But at least they're trying, and Pelosi is showing some backbone in standing up to the thugs in office. That counts for something, I guess.

Now, when the Democrats win a real majority, maybe then we'll see some actual changes.
