Original article: Those ignorant atheists

Walter Map

I readily admit that I agree with what Walter says the great majority of the time.

There is no one who can compare to Walter and with what he can do to people with whom he disagrees. I really enjoyed his performance today.

I've been occasionally reading comments for a few years now and occasionally run across Walter annihilating people who disagree with him. I'm really happy to see that he is still at the top of his game.

I had 16 years of catholic education, with a major in theology. It took me that long to become a full fledged atheist. But the Jesuits did it, because every difficult question was answered with the need to have faith. There was never a logical explanation.

I think that when I was 10 and an altar boy, the first questions started arising in my brain. If I had read Dawkin's book then, I wouldn't have wasted so much time disproving what my mother drilled into me.

Glenn Greenwald

Thanks for the fine work! I need your blog to gain perspective and keep my sanity.

Obama is driving me nuts! It is totally crazy what he is doing!

Joe Scarborough, W., Cheney, Limbaugh, Dennis Miller, William Kristol, John Bolton, Sean Hannity, Frank Gaffney, Pat Buchanan, Smerconish, the Kagans, O'Reilly, Savage, Beck, Yoo, Bybee, Haynes, Bradbury, Noonan, Broder, Marcus, Gary Bauer, Goldberg...

What makes any of these people experts on torture? On invading Iraq? Which ones served their country? Why should we listen to any one of them?

It is beyond ironic that these characters get on TV every day and night, or write op/ed pieces in the MSM and proclaim that the country has to "move on" and some things are better off just being mysterious.

So what if war crimes were committed that were inhuman and illegal!

They loudly proclaim they are strong on national defense and EITs, and constantly replay the ridiculous ticking time bomb scenario. It appears to me that they are mostly crazy, and/or draft dodgers, and/or intellectual lightweights.

i need something positive to occur. The country does. What is Obama thinking?

"Obama seems to believe that no one will ever see them. Why?"

There are quite a few things that bother me. One is that I have the same question as you have. I thought it was the responsibility of the courts. The courts, including the appellate, have decided to release the photos to the ACLU. If the government appeals then it goes to SCOTUS. It seems to me the courts will in time release the photos.

I just don't get it.

It is the same as the DOJ is supposed to make the decision on a special prosecutor for war crimes "independent" of the president. There is ample evidence. Why doesn't it happen?

Obama comes up with the, in my mind, totally debunked statement by Rumsfeld that there were a "few bad apples."

I don't get it. I've read a few comments and a blog that makes a pretty persuasive case that Obama is "playing the long game." I hope so!

@matthewj44

Thanks for the link!

What struck me is that I assume these photos are depicting torture that was authorized and not done by a few rogue grunts.

I found the four photos totally repugnant.

I am trying to find the other photos alleged to be available from Australian websites.

Someone will soon be posting that Obama knew!

Obama Obviously Lying!

I truly, really want to believe that Obama is playing 3 dimensional chess or is involved in a "long game."

But no dice! I don't buy it. He is a glib politician involved in his own best interests. He was about as convincing as W.

Anyone, even including yours truly, who struggles with any subtlety or nuance or with many metaphors can plainly detect that Obama was offering up a pile of crap in his defense of attempting to prohibit the release of the photos. It confuses me because he is obviously very bright and his motivation escapes me.

But this whole torture issue is playing out in some crazy, out-of-control manner. Day in and day out more and more witnesses are popping up and some of the accused (Pelosi) aren't backing down and revelations are coming in by the hour.

There were so many people involved and many of them see that Cheney is losing his power and are now finding some fortitude.

If it wasn't such an immense tragedy, it would be interesting. Truth is indeed stranger than fiction.

Ari Fleisher!

Ari Fleischer, who was Bush's first press secretary, said Obama "should acknowledge his campaign criticisms were wrong."

"With some minor changes, he really is following the same path President Bush pursued," he said.

For the first time in my lifetime I agree with Fleisher.

How depressing is that!

McCain could have won and we would have the exact administration we have now with Obama.

My god, he's a republican!

Little Brother

I don't scroll past your comments and am aware of your positions.

However your viewpoint is shared by several posters at UT that I feel I am in harmony with.

But just for today, I hope, I am taken aback by all of the MSM and all of the republican pundits and all of the republican bloggers who are praising Obama as if he really was Bush.

And I find myself agreeing with them. He is just like Bush!

I would have bet my life against what is happening today; back in October!
