Very Sad!

We live in an epoch that is reprehensible. A time when some of our country's politicians are committed to repulsive acts. These politicians are supported by a group of elite journalists in and around DC; together they band into a cohesive group defending the indefensible, war crimes.

I watched Frank Gaffney tonight on Hardball and I am totally depressed.

Old laws no longer apply because this time around "it is different." We are now dealing with terrorists and also the people responsible were acting in good-faith.

When a country, not a threat, is pre-emptively invaded, then occupied and its inhabitants are rounded up and tortured in the name of freedom and democracy, every citizen of the invading country has his/her self-worth profoundly denigrated. Which country is the country with the terrorists?

The anger and the divisiveness caused by this unnecessary war, and the torture as a horrible offshoot, is clearly exemplified on this blog, UT. The wingnuts proselytize their evil and the liberals fall for the bait. Obama wants to forgive and forget.

We are truly a polarized country.

Thanks Glenn for your diligence and determination.

Shooter

"This bill is nearly a trillion dollars of pork with little to no economic benefit to business, only a third of which will be spent this year."

You're so right! The Bush/Paulson TARP bill gave the banks/investment houses, in a completely hidden process, with bipartisan support in congress, limitless billions to pay $18.5 billion in bonuses, to buy $50 million aircraft, to pay for posh, extravagant outings, refurbish a CEO office for $1.2 Million, to pay out dividends and to buy other banks. They said the funds were to be used to buy up the sub-prime mortgages which was never done. Nobody knows where the money has gone, except for a few leaks!

Obama won't be so generous to the "masters of the universe."

Therefore I completely understand your concern that the designated (buddies of Bush/Paulson) elite and privileged may not be drinking from the old republican gift horse anymore.

Not what I thought was going to happen!

The more I see of Obama's attempts at bipartisanship, the more disappointed I become.

Everyday the country seems to become more under control of the republican philosophies.

Extraordinary rendition kept, capitulation on the stimulus bill explained so well by Krugman, soldiers not coming home as promised, complications attached to the Gitmo closing, lobbyists proliferating in the administration, the Wall Street culprits solving the problem they created and profiting from it, and on and on and on.

Did Bush really leave? Coulda fooled this guy.

Glenn, good job with Moyers. I don't know how you persevere with all the crap that is happening but I am so glad you're doing what you do.

Glenn I agree, a resounding and disgraceful failure!

Leahy said today that Congress will likely proceed with investigations regardless of whether Obama is on board.

I hope so and I also hope that Obama doesn't obstruct Leahy's investigation; but I doubt it based on what has happened recently. When the FISA outrage occurred I sensed what was going to happen and the subsequent appointment of John Brennan infuriated me. So I am not surprised and I am grateful to Glenn and Rachel for disclosing the repulsive politics being played, but mostly I am proud of Leahy. I wish he could replace Reid. Fiengold Is also top-notch.

Same old, same old!

It feels just like it did over the last eight years.

Nothing has changed. I'll bet John Brennan and his buddy Gates dictated this "States Secrets" strategy for Obama. They both love Bush and war crimes.

Giethner is just like Paulson. Biden keeps on talking nonsense. And Obama wants to keep looking forward. America needs help and I don't see where it will come from.

I had hope and now I see it dissipate on a daily basis.

The elitists win!

Ondelette

"They've been misjudging this since the election, the question is who is responsible? My bet is the intel and defense advisers. They would be the ones so prejudiced against 'civil libertarians' and protective of 'patriotic operatives' that they would fail to see the avalanche tilting over the side of the ravine."

I think this has john Brennan written all over it, and he had an easy sell with the "Intelligence Team."

Independent, I am! Kick the incumbents out!

Glenn, today's article is very timely.

I consider myself an independent. I am just as repulsed by Hoyer, Reid, Feinstein. Harman and Pelosi as I am by Vitter, Specter, Sessions, DeMint, Graham, McConnell, Inhofe and last but not least, Leiberman.

They are just like the Wall Street "Masters of the Universe," giving no quarter to the rest of the citizenry. They are voracious, greedy, unabashed gobblers of the buffet of government largesse!

I am just as well-disposed towards Leahy, Feingold, Conyers and Frank as I am to Hegal and Snowe.

These people seem to consider "politics," but are not driven.

The republicans support the elitists and the wealthy and I am an average joe so I tend towards the viewpoints of democrats.

Currently, I am despondent over Obama's performance and his attempts at bipartisanship. Obviously his attempts are an utter failure. His appointments of lobbyists and John Brennan plus his retention of Bushies is truly disheartening.

I don't look forward to the future. Brooks, in his column today depicts a very unfortunate scenario for the future. So there's hope because he is almost always wrong.

Glenn, I look forward to your "Accountablilty Now" effort and hope to participate. I hope Hoyer is at the top of the list. I have been voting against him forever. At least it seems so.
