"LGBT people, feminists, progressives, pacifists... we will have to wait for Obama's scraps. We have never had a place at the table. And we are told to suck it up and deal with it because we don't matter."
And it also doesn't matter that politicians break the law because they intended to do good. The only time they get punished for things like torture is when they lose a war. Obama says he doesn't want to get tied down with this issue because it will stop him from doing what needs to be done. Forget the war crimes, he says.
And the executives who have destroyed our economic system due to greed get rewarded with new contracts to fix the mess they created and also get taxpayer money (our children's) for compensation and dividends and to purchase other banks.
And the democrats elected in 2006 who gave me a glimmer of hope were as complicit in the downfall of this country as the neocon republicans.
I feel for you and all the innocent people deprived of their rights because of god and the innocents that were tortured and killed in Iraq so that they could get rid of Saddam and be liberated.
I don't want to go nuts and say Obama is worse than Bush but one could say that I am extremely sad.
Cheney appears to have a clear-cut plan to bring down the complicit democratic congress people with him. If he goes down he is going to bring down as many of his enemies as he can.
The more democrats he identifies who abetted and encouraged his strategies, the better off he will be; and their inclusion will also mitigate any culpability he will have.
From my perspective this gambit by him is marvelous. It will open the doors to more public scrutiny and perhaps provide the needed illumination of the evil events and the motivations that caused them.
Honestly, the only place I feel I get honest and consistent reporting is from Glenn's blog. It also pushes me to do things I normally wouldn't do. I now look forward to writing a letter and also calling Pelosi's and Harman's offices to demand that they describe their participation and either deny or affirm what they are accused of by Cheney.
I am really saddened by Obama's choice of Warren, his vote on FISA, his retention of Gates, his embrace of Brennan, and his apparent, consistent attitude that the need for inclusiveness overrides the need to hold elite politicians accountable for war crimes.
Maybe this effort to uncover what Pelosi and Harman did might provide some relief for me to overcome my disappointment in Obama.
What you appear to be saying is that Pelosi and Harman were duped by Cheney. But his unequivocal accusations yesterday seem to be quite specific and don't indicate that at all. He is making them directly complicit!
Don't you think he is forcing them to openly respond by making these accusations? He knows their involvement and does he really want them to acknowledge that they were duped? Or were they, as I think, really complicit?
"The fact that, whatever was disclosed, was withheld, kept secret, was "eyes only," from Congress as a whole, suggests to me anyway, that more damaging information - which would indeed implicate Pelosi, Harman, Rockefeller, and Daschle in approving genuinely illegal programs - was in fact part of that briefing."
Thanks for stating "my point exactly" much better than I could.
I of course have a hard time believing anything Cheney says, but in this case it makes much more sense that he is including these democrats for culpability because they deserve it. The statements made by Pelosi and Harman in response to the criticism that they are receiving seems to indicate they are really a lot more worried than if they had a defense that they were duped.
