"However, being African-American myself, I find your presumptiveness in assuming that it is somehow within your power as an individual to deem whether someone is Black or not to be highly insulting."
I certainly don't mean to be insulting. My statement was never meant to insult anyone except McCain, et al, who in my opinion, are playing the "race card." My personal experiences indicate to me that racism is pervasive in the USA.
I probably should have left that statement out because I can see now that it didn't communicate what I intended.
My regard for Obama is extremely high; as an intellect, a human being, a rational decision maker, a doer and a manager. I am outraged and appalled by the campaign of McCain and the neocons in general to follow the tenets of Leo Strauss and Wohlstetter to play on the irrational fears of the masses.
If I offended you it was unintentional and I apologize.
"So, there you have it. I'm back."
How lamentable and regrettable!
Truthfully!
I am never going to watch Letterman again! I was thoroughly repulsed by the manner in which he kowtowed to McCain tonight. He completely let him off the hook just because McCain was groveling in a ridiculously non-presidential manner.
They have a long relationship and I guess Letterman just feels he has to to be a foil and an allower for McCain's erratic screwiness.
Then he just let McCain ramble on about Ayres without challenging any distortion of the truth that McCain was expounding on.
He was so obsequious that it caused me great discomfiture and making me want to vomit. When the hell is someone going to make McCain answer for his lying, despicable, gutter-ridden campaign?
Your analysis is right-on!
I was just reacting to R2. He's upset with Letterman for being unfair to McCain. Ridiculous!
I thought I would expose his incredible bias by getting upset with Letterman for just the opposite behavior.
I guess being ridiculous is common and isn't remarkable or noteworthy.
Surprisingly, the Washington Post and the LA Times have endorsed Obama.
The following excerpt is from the LA Times and it is the reason why I think there was such a turn-around in the recent polls.
"Indeed, the presidential campaign has rendered McCain nearly unrecognizable. His selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate was, as a short-term political tactic, brilliant. It was also irresponsible, as Palin is the most unqualified vice presidential nominee of a major party in living memory. The decision calls into question just what kind of thinking -- if that's the appropriate word -- would drive the White House in a McCain presidency. Fortunately, the public has shown more discernment, and the early enthusiasm for Palin has given way to national ridicule of her candidacy and McCain's judgment."
"Errr... what planet are you from, antineocon?"
My planet is Krypton! My father is Jor-El. You may know me as Barack "Stephen" Obama. I possess a strong moral compass and my rhetoric passes as eloquence. Ask John McCain.
Virtue, are you telling me that the Washington Post editorial board is for Barack Obama and always has been? I remember differently. Fred Hiatt is another Sean Hannity. They have been staunch supporters of the Bush administration for the last eight years.
When I was reading their endorsement I had to keep rechecking the source. What a surprise!
From an LA Times blog:
"The board's decision creates all kinds of problems for political partisans. It endorsed a Democrat, which kinda blows up the idea of a rich Republican owner dictating policies from BelAir or Michigan Avenue.
Someone could suggest the endorsement confirms the mainstream print media's ongoing adoration of the liberal Windy City machine magi. Except this is the newspaper's first presidential endorsement of any kind since 1972, when it had appeared to learn its lesson and stopped White House endorsements after supporting Richard M. Nixon, who was forced to resign in disgrace. So, no Times pattern there.
In fact, Obama is the first Democratic presidential nominee endorsed by The Times newspaper ever, which makes him very special or weird."
Your post was worthwhile reading and you make points that aren't considered by many people, including me.
Of all the incredibly, mind-blowing, horrific actions of the Bush administration, torture stands out for me. I abhor the idea that human beings conspired to condone it. If Powell did indeed attend the meetings chaired by Rice then I have no respect for him. Period! That distaste would follow through to Obama.
I also believe that if I knew that Iraq had no WMD unless the USA supplied them, then Powell should have known. I think he was somehow conned by Cheney and Rumsfeld or wasn't strong enough to withstand their manipulations and pressures. His speech was devastating to me!
I would have real problems with an Obama administration that put Powell in a position of power.
"Am I the only person who thinks this guy is a Republican troll?"
Why do you think that? I am a strong supporter of Obama and believe him to be really a potentially great president. I disagree with some of his centrist tendencies, such a with FISA, and I would like to see him defend himself more against the slime that McCain is throwing at him.
But Powell is another story altogether. I thoroughly agree with "the fool" because I think the neocons like Hadley and Rice and Rumsfeld and Addington and Gonzales and Cheney should be tried as war criminals and if Powell was part of that cabal he should pay the price and it really annoys me that Obama was humbled by his endorsement.
Those people invaded a country that wasn't threatening us and killed a million of them and rounded up the survivors and tortured them for no reason at all.
